Sycamores fall to Bradley in finale of four-match road trip

PEORIA, Ill. – Kira Holland led Indiana State with eight kills Saturday and Macy Lengacher added a team-high 15 digs, but the Sycamores were defeated in three sets by Bradley (27-25, 25-11, 25-14) inside Renaissance Coliseum.

Emily Weber dished out 16 assists and also had seven digs and three blocks, while Lilly Mueller tallied a match-high four blocks.

Kills from Emma Kaelin and Curry Kendall got things started for the Sycamores, with Kendall and Weber also teaming up for a block assist early on. Indiana State took advantage of Bradley errors as part of a four-point run to go in front, with Mueller assisting on a pair of blocks during the run. Bradley errors kept the Sycamores in the set, with an ace from Kaelin and a kill from Scott giving the Trees an 18-17 lead. Scott later gave the Sycamores set point with a kill, but Bradley won three straight points to take the first set 27-25.

Holland opened the scoring for the Trees in set two with a kill, but Bradley took control with a 10-1 run to go in front 13-5. Kaelin and Hannah Baudin tacked on kills, while Holland added a pair of kills late in the set, but the deficit was insurmountable for Indiana State to overcome. Bradley won set two by a 25-11 margin, putting the Sycamores' backs against the wall.

A four-point run early in set three gave the Sycamores life, with Holland putting down four quick kills to get the attack going. Kendall added a block solo and Scott put down another kill for the Sycamores, but a 9-2 run for the Braves gave Bradley a 15-9 advantage midway through. A kill from Scott and a block assist from Weber and Mueller pulled the Sycamores closer, but Bradley followed with an 8-1 run to regain all the momentum. Late kills from Kaelin and Mueller weren't enough for the Trees, who fell in the third set 25-14 to close out the match.
