Indiana State Basketball announces annual Blackout Cancer game dates

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – For the fifth consecutive season, Indiana State men's basketball will host their annual Blackout Cancer games on February 3 (Drake) and February 24 (UIC).

The Sycamores will wear special black jerseys with pink striping as their official game uniform on each of the two home dates. The February 24th game will serve as ISU's designated BlackOut game with fans encouraged to wear black as the Sycamores take on UIC.

Proceeds from the February 3 game will support the Rich and Robin Porter Cancer Research Center here at Indiana State with funding going toward the continued efforts in creating a premier training center for the next generation of cancer researchers. Proceeds from the February 24 game will go toward the State Dance Marathon – Riley Children's Foundation which helps raise funds and awareness in an annual 12-hour event that combines activities, dancing, and fundraising for the children receiving life-changing treatment at Riley Hospital for Children.

Indiana State men's basketball will host its annual BlackOut game on February 24 against UIC including a Black t-shirt giveaway sponsored by Mark Clinkenbeard Construction, Wright's Pool Service, Justin Campbell – Campbell Lending Group – Fairway Mortgage, and U.S. Lawns. Fans are encouraged to wear black for the February 24 game in support of both the team, and the on-going fight against cancer.

"Indiana State University is thrilled that the Blackout Cancer game will return for its fifth consecutive year," ISU President Dr. Deborah Curtis said. "This partnership between Sycamore Athletics and the Rich and Robin Porter Cancer Research Center is a fantastic opportunity to cheer on our men's basketball team while donating to cancer research and the critical work being done on Indiana State's campus. Donations will help push the boundaries of cancer research at ISU with the goal to develop a cure for this debilitating disease."

It marks the fifth consecutive season ISU basketball has made a commitment and brought awareness to the Porter Cancer Research Center. The relationship is much appreciated by the Center.

"Our collaborating blackout cancer event through the men's basketball game between ISU athletics and the Porter Cancer Research Center (PCRC) provides ISU basketball fans with an opportunity to honor the memory of family members and loved ones who have succumbed to cancer," Director of Porter Cancer Research Center Dr. Takuya Akiyama said. "This event also reminds you of the ongoing battle against this dangerous disease. Contributions made during this event will directly support the PCRC fellows, accelerating our cancer research. Our discoveries made at ISU may save you, your family, and your loved ones in the future. Let's fight against cancer together!"

February 24th's game marks the first year the Sycamores are recognizing and contributing toward State Dance Marathon in support of Riley Children's Health.

"Indiana State Athletics partnering with State Dance Marathon (StateDM), provides an outlet to recognize the significant impact that Riley Hospital for Children has on our local community," ISU Student Services Director Christina Cantrell said. "StateDM's mission is to Change Kids' Health and this cannot be done without the support and generosity of our community members, and the commitment of organizations such as Indiana State Athletics."

There will be opportunities for fans to donate to both cancer research centers throughout the games, including a Riley Miracle Minute, during the February 24 game.
