ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Indiana State men's basketball junior Isaiah Swope was named Missouri Valley Newcomer of the Week, released by the conference on Monday. This marks Swope's first weekly honor as a Sycamore.

Swope averaged 40.3 minutes-per-game in ISU's 2-0 week in Valley play to move into first place in the league. The junior guard averaged 24.5 PPG (43.6% from the field), 4.0 RPG, 3.5 AST/G, and snagged a pair of steals.
 
In game one of the week at UIC, Swope recorded a career-high 30 points off 10-for-21 shooting from the floor, including knocking down six threes. Counting down the final seconds of the first half, ISU trailed by one before Swope drained a buzzer-beating three to give the Sycamores a 41-39 lead heading into the break. Through the first 10 minutes of the second half, Swope was one of two players for ISU to combine for 22 of ISU's 24 points with 12 points of 4-of-5 shooting.
 
In game two at home versus Bradley, Swope recorded 19 points with five rebounds and six assists playing in 43 minutes in the overtime victory. He was responsible for five points in a 7-0 run in the first half to claim a six-point lead and helped the Sycamores back to a seven-point lead in the second half recorded two points, a steal, and an assist. Swope led all scorers in the overtime frame with seven points. He assisted on a dagger that gave ISU a six-point advantage with just under two minutes remaining. Then, following an opponent basket, Swope made back-to-back buckets to extend back to a six-point lead to secure the victory.

The Sycamores return to action on Wednesday, January 31 at Belmont and return to the Hulman Center on Saturday, February 3 against Drake.
