TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State men's basketball won its fifth-straight game to move to 18-3, 9-1 Missouri Valley Conference in an overtime win inside Hulman Center against Bradley University, 95-86.
Ryan Conwell led Indiana State in scoring with 22 points, shooting 7-for-13 from the floor and knocked down four three-pointers.
Isaiah Swope recorded with 19 points with five rebounds and six assists.
Robbie Avila was two points shy of having four consecutive 20-point games, finishing with 18 points, seven rebounds and tied his career-high in steals with three.
Jayson Kent scored 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting and amassed 16 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Julian Larry rounded out the five Sycamores in double figures with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field and dished out six assists.
Indiana State and Bradley went back-and-forth in the first half until ISU took a six-point lead at the 12:43 mark, 14-8. Bradley tied the game at 23 apiece with 4:22 remaining. The Braves claimed a one-point lead with 2:37 left in the first half, 27-26, then the Sycamores went on a 7-0 run with five points from Swope to reclaim a six-point, 33-27 lead. Bradley made one bucket to cut the deficit to four, making a 33-29 ballgame at the break.
Bradley opened the second half on fire, making 13 of the first 14 shots in the half, including a perfect 6-for-6 from beyond the arc. Despite Bradley being near perfect from the field, the Sycamores kept pace and trailed by only five points with 11 minutes to play, 63-58. Coming out of the under-eight media timeout, the two teams exchanged buckets until Indiana State grabbed a seven-point lead off back-to-back buckets by Avila and Swope, 74-67 with 5:43 remaining. The Braves cut the deficit and tied the game with 1:19 left in the game at 76-76. A dunk by the Braves gave them a 78-76 lead, followed up with clutch free throws to force the game into overtime at a score of 78-78.
The Sycamores dominated overtime, outscoring the Braves 17-8 while shooting 5-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. In the first 2:30 of overtime, the Sycamores held a one-possession advantage, 86-83. In the final 2:30 of overtime, Indiana State used a 12-3 outbreak and controlled the rest of the game. Avila knocked down a three from just left of the top of the key, followed by an
Xavier Bledson triple from the right wing. A Bradley bucket cut the lead to 89-86 with 1:37 left in overtime, only for Swope to score on back-to-back layups and Bledson to knock down the final two clutch free throws to give the Sycamores the 95-86 victory.
