PARIS – Indiana State sprinter
Noah Malone closed his 2022-23 season in style Monday, taking home the gold medal in the 100m T12 at the Para Athletics World Championships at Stade Sebastien Charlety.
Malone ran a time of 10.53 (w: +0.8) in the finals, crossing the finish line in first to earn his first career Para Athletics World Championships gold medal. He also set the championship record in the event in Sunday's opening round, running a time of 10.50 (w: +1.4). Both his first round and finals time were faster than the previous championship record of 10.54 and on pace with his season averages at Indiana State, which ranged in the 10.4-10.6 range.
The win in Paris caps another strong season for Malone, a Fishers, Indiana, native. He earned three all-conference honors during the 2022-23 campaign and was a part of the Sycamores' 4x100m relay team that earned a top-15 finish at the NCAA East First Round.
Malone is no stranger to the world stage, having previously won three medals at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo. He also won gold in the 100m T12 at the 2022 World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai.
By virtue of his gold medal at the Para Athletics World Championships, Malone also secured his spot at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris, to be contested next summer. It will be the second Paralympic Games for Malone, who won three medals (one gold, two silver) at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo.
