TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State football hit the field on Monday morning for the first of 15 scheduled practices in the 2023 spring football practice slate.
"We've worked hard in the offseason," head coach
Curt Mallory said. "The biggest thing today was seeing consistency and we saw it early on the offensive side with the quarterbacks really throwing the ball well out there. Overall, it was the first day and it was a fun day. There were good things on both sides of the ball and that's what you want to see."
The Sycamores will continue this week with practices on Wednesday and Friday and will carry on with three practices a week leading up to the April 29 Spring Game at Memorial Stadium. For the coaches, it's an opportunity to get the players used to the system and fine-tune some things prior to the summer.
"Practice time is great and getting on the field is big," Mallory said. "Our meeting time is big too. Having the opportunity to take our time, utilize the time in between practices, and have our coaches who are also great teachers help our guys make steps and learn our system will only help us out in the future."
Indiana State will continue its spring practice slate this week as ISU looks ahead to the fall and the start of the 2023 football season. The Sycamores' 11-game slate will feature five home games at Memorial Stadium, including the Thursday, August 31 home opener against Eastern Illinois.
Ticket prices and kickoff times will be announced at a later date.
