TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Karinna Gall and
Kira Holland both posted double-doubles Saturday evening for Indiana State, but visiting Missouri State defeated the Sycamores in four sets (25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17) inside ISU Arena.
Gall tallied 17 kills, her most in a conference match this season, to go along with 10 digs, while Holland had 13 kills and a career-best 19 digs.
Avery Hales dished out 40 assists and was one of six Sycamores with multiple blocks, while
Cadence Gilley registered 15 digs in her first match as libero for Indiana State.
Kills from Hales and Holland helped Indiana State jump out to a 5-1 lead in the first set, but Missouri State used a scoring run of its own to go in front 7-6. Holland and Hamilton added on to the Sycamore tally with kills, but a 7-1 run for the Bears saw the Sycamore deficit swell to 15-9. Missouri State led by as many as seven in the set, but Indiana State's never-say-die attitude was on full display to fend off multiple set points. Despite late kills from Gall and
Storm Suhre, Missouri State held on to take the opening frame 25-20.
Holland opened the second set with a net-clip ace, and kills from Gall, Holland and Hales saw the Sycamores take an 8-4 lead early in the set. Indiana State's lead grew to 14-7 following a block assist from Scott and Holland, along with a Hales service ace, but Missouri State went on a run to cut the Sycamore advantage to 16-13. The Bears got within two on multiple occasions late in the set, but two kills from Gall along with a pair of blocks for the Sycamores helped Indiana State claim the second set 25-21 to level the match.
Indiana State jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set on the strength of kills from Scott, Hamilton and Gall. Missouri State crept its way back into the set, but block solos from Suhre and Hales kept the Sycamores in front. The Bears used a four-point swing to take an 18-16 lead, and never trailed for the remainder of the set. Indiana State tied the set on multiple occasions thanks to two kills each from Scott and Gall, but the visitors sealed a 25-23 third set win with a block that barely stayed in play.
Missouri State took six of the first eight points in the fourth set and led for the remainder of the match. Kills from Holland and Scott kept the Trees within three midway through, but another scoring run for the Bears saw Indiana State trailing 13-6. Back-to-back kills from Gall and Suhre got the Sycamores closer, but Indiana State was unable to break through for a lengthy run of its own. A block assist from Suhre and Gall helped the Sycamores fend off match point, but Missouri State closed things out by taking the fourth set 25-17.
Inside the Numbers
- Karinna Gall's 17 kills were her most in a conference match this season and her most in a match since the opening weekend of the season.
- Kira Holland's 19 digs were a career-high, and als marked her second match of the season with 15 or more digs.
- Indiana State recorded double-digit blocks for just the third time this season, with the Sycamores' 11 blocks representing the second-highest total in a conference match for Indiana State this season.
- Ella Scott finished with seven kills and no errors on 13 attempts, marking the second time this season she hit .500 or better in an error-free performance.

- Kira Holland has recorded double-digit kills in each of the last 12 matches, a streak that dates back to the opening weekend of conference play. She also has double-doubles in each of the last three matches.
