Wyman, Krutsch sweep MVC Men’s Track and Field weekly honors

ST. LOUIS – Indiana State track and field swept the MVC Men's Athlete of the Week awards following a standout showing at the John Gartland Invitational, as announced by the league office Wednesday evening.

Wyatt Wyman was tabbed as the MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week, while Kevin Krutsch was named the MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week.

Wyman ran a career-best 600m time of 1:20.12 to take top spot in the event at the John Gartland Invitational. In addition to moving up to third in program history in the event, he also set the Indiana State Indoor Track and Field Facility record and the John Gartland Invitational meet record in the process. Not to be outdone, he also ran the third leg of the Sycamores' 4x400m relay that placed first with a facility and meet record time of 3:18.37, with his 4000m split coming in at 49.4.

Wyman's 600m time is third among MVC athletes and 11th in the Great Lakes region. Indiana State's 4x400m relay team currently ranks first in the MVC and third in the Great Lakes region.

Krutsch became the first Sycamore since 2018 to clear seven feet in the high jump with his performance at the John Gartland Invitational. He broke the meet and facility record in the event by clearing 2.15m (7-00.50), finishing second in the event and only losing out on top spot via tiebreaker.

Krutsch's mark was the best of his career and put him in a tie for fifth in program history in the event. He ranks first in the MVC and in the Great Lakes Region, and eighth in the nation in the event.

The weekly award is the second for both Wyman and Krutsch in their careers. Krutsch was named MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week once during the 2021-22 indoor season, while Wyman picked up MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors once during the 2022 outdoor season. The weekly awards give Indiana State five MVC Athletes of the Week through the Sycamores' first three meets of the season, with Ryann Porter, William Staggs and Isiah Thomas all picking up conference honors earlier this season.

Indiana State continues its indoor season Friday and Saturday at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational in Louisville, Kentucky.
