TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Four Indiana State student-athletes were among the group that presented at the Summer Undergraduate Research Experiences (SURE) program on Thursday.
Sarah Moreau (Swimming & Diving),
Maddie Welsh (Women's Track & Field),
Connor Tierney (Football), and
Tara Hoffman (Soccer) were among the 38 students to present on their experiences during the SURE 2022 Symposium held at the Hulman Memorial Student Union.
The SURE program provides ISU students an opportunity to participate in an intensive research experience under the direct supervision of a faculty advisor during the summer months. The program culminates in the symposium where the students document their research and present their findings.
Moreau's research experience cae in the chemistory and physics field. Her group focused on the study of alkaloids of
Ranitomeya imitator, a Mullerian Mimic of Poison Frogs.
Welsh's research experience came in the biology field where her group utilized transgenic enhancer-reporter assays to study the trx regulation of Hox gene expression in heart development.
Tierney's research experience was in the field of chemistry and physics. His group researched additive-free coupling of ammonium organotetrafluorosilicate salts and aryldiazonium salts.
Hoffman's research experience came in the biology field where she worked on using bioinformatics to uncover small transmembrane proteins in bacteria and archaea.
