Senior Day ends in a tie as Sycamores and Patriots close out regular season series

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The regular season finale between Indiana State and Dallas Baptist will go into the scorebooks as a 2-2 tie as lighting and inclement weather forced the teams to clear Bob Warn Field on Saturday afternoon in the bottom of the 10th inning.

Dallas Baptist (33-20-1, 11-9-1 MVC) had connected on the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning on George Specht's solo home run to give the Patriots their first lead of the ballgame. The Sycamores (25-20-1, 10-10-1 MVC) were rallying back with runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the 10th when lightning struck close enough to the facility to send the teams to the dugout and the fans to their vehicles.

After brief discussion on the field, the game was called due to the expected continual lighting strikes and inclement weather expected in the Wabash Valley and all scores and stats reverted back to the final completed inning leaving the teams in a 2-2 tie.

Randall Diaz and Seth Gergely both doubled for the Sycamores, while Josue Urdaneta added an RBI single to highlight a nine-hit game from Indiana State at the plate. Jordan Schaffer, Urdaneta, and Gergely all finished with multi-hit efforts in the tie.

Luke Patzner provided the ISU bullpen some much-needed rest with a 7.1-inning quality start on Saturday afternoon. The redshirts sophomore allowed just four hits and two runs (one earned), while striking out six in the no-decision. Jack Parisi added three strikeouts over 1.2 innings of no-hit relief work.

George Specht connected on DBU's lone extra base hit among the four-hit outing from the Patriots on Saturday. Cole Moore and Luke Heefner provided the RBI for DBU in the tie game.

Ryan Johnson went 6.2 innings out of the bullpen for the Patriots and limited the Sycamores at the plate throughout the game. The freshman right-hander scattered five hits while striking out two in relief of Luke Eldred. Zane Russell went the final two innings in scoreless relief in the final completed innings of the game.
