BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Indiana State softball had their seven-game win streak snapped Saturday afternoon as the Sycamores were blanked in a pair of games on day one of the Samford Bulldog Classic.
It was a quiet day for ISU at the plate as the Sycamores totaled just eight hits between the two contests.
Game One
The Sycamores fell 2-0 to Boston College in the opening game of the weekend.
The Eagles broke a scoreless tie in the fourth with an RBI single to give them a 1-0 lead. Boston College would extend their lead to 2-0 in the fifth.
Indiana State recorded six hits in the game while allowing seven.
Bella Peterson finished 3-3 with a double while
Isabella Henning went 2-4 on the afternoon.
Amanda Guercio added a pinch-hit single in the seventh inning. ISU struck out 11 times while leaving 11 runners on base.
ISU had the bases loaded with two outs in the top of the seventh but Boston College was able to escape the jam and secure the win.
On the mound for the Sycamores,
Lexi Benko struck out two across six innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits.
Game Two
Indiana State lost another close one in game two as Samford won 1-0 to end the day.
This game did not see much action offensively as there were only five hits combined between the two schools all afternoon. Indiana State finished with two while Samford had three.
Samford scored with two outs in the sixth to take a 1-0 lead on a slow roller up the middle.
Abi Chipps and
Isabella Henning had the only two hits for the Sycamores with
Lexie Siwek and
Cassie Thomerson drawing walks to give ISU just four baserunners in the contest.
Cassi Newbanks allowed just one earned run on three hits in her six innings on the mound.

The Sycamores will take on Boston College and Samford again tomorrow, with first pitch against Boston College set for 1:30 p.m. ET. The game against Samford will begin 30 minutes following the completion of the Boston College game. Both games will be streamed on ESPN Plus.
