ST. LOUIS – Following the best performance by a Sycamore in the women's pole vault in seven years, Indiana State's
Selene Weaver was selected as the Missouri Valley Conference Female Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon.
Weaver became the first Sycamore to clear 4.00m in the pole vault since 2014 when she accomplished the feat on her way to a first-place finish at the ISU Open. After passing on each of the first four heights, Weaver cleared 3.68m, 3.78m, 3.88m and 4.00m in straight succession. She was the only competitor in the field to clear 3.80m and led a Sycamore contingent that had each of the top four finishers in the event.
Weaver's mark ranks sixth in program history and is also the top mark in the Valley this season, where she remains the only athlete in the conference to clear 3.80m.
Weaver's weekly honor is the second of her career and is the seventh weekly honor for the Sycamores this season. She becomes the sixth different Indiana State track and field athlete to earn Valley weekly honors, joining
Kevin Krutsch,
JaVaughn Moore,
Shomari Rogers-Walton,
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith and
Brittnee James.
Weaver and the Sycamores compete in the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships Sunday and Monday in Chicago.
