DES MOINES, Iowa -- Indiana State basketball was not able to overcome poor second half shooting as Drake walked away with a 74-58 victory Monday night in Des Moines.
Â
ISU shot just 25 percent in the second half after a first half in which Indiana State shot 43 percent from the field and 53 percent from behind the arc.
Â
Turnovers plagued the Sycamores for the second consecutive game as Drake was able to turn 15 ISU miscues into 16 points. DU (20-9, 11-5 MVC) had just seven turnovers in the game which ISU turned into two points.
Â
Indiana State (11-17, 4-12 MVC) hit four of its first six shots from deep and jumped out to a 14-11 lead before the first media break six minutes into action.
Cameron Henry would extend the ISU lead to six points with his 11th point of the game with a layup seven minutes into play. A 7-0 run pushed Drake back out in front for the first time since it was 7-6.
Â
ISU outscored Drake 17-12 in the final nine minutes of the first, going 4-for-5 from deep during the stretch.
Kailex Stephens scored six, while
Cooper Neese added four during the run.
Â
Stephens and Henry led the Sycamores with 12 and 11 points in the first 20 minutes as ISU shot 42.9 percent from the field and 53.3 percent (8-for-15) from distance. Stephens knocked in four of ISU's eight triples while Henry hit two.
Â
The Sycamores held Drake without a point in the final two minutes to take a 36-32 lead into the locker room.
Â
Drake opened the second half on a 9-2 run to regain the lead before ISU answered back. The Bulldogs would pick up their largest lead since early in the first half at 51-47 after a 6-0 spurt thanks in part to D.J. Wilkins and Roman Penn to energize the Knapp Center just before the under-12 media break.
Â
The run continued for the Bulldogs over a nine-minute period as DU scored 23 points while holding ISU to just four points to open their lead to the biggest of the game at 64-49.
Â
Henry finished the game with 17 points and three rebounds while Stephens scored 16 and grabbed six boards. Neese finished with 11 but shot just 3-for-13 from the field. Wilkins led Drake with 17 while DeVries added 14.
