Sycamores Defeat SIUE and Tennessee Tech to Extend Win Streak to Six

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Indiana State swept a Saturday doubleheader at the Chattanooga Challenge with wins over SIUE and Tennessee Tech to extend their winning streak to six games.

Game One
The Sycamores began their day with a come from behind victory over SIUE, scoring four in the fifth inning to help secure a 7-5 victory.

Indiana State had the offense going early, scoring three runs in the first inning.

Annie Tokarek drove in Olivia Patton and Bella Peterson with a double into left center to put ISU up 2-0. Isabella Henning would score after a throw trickled away from the SIUE catcher to make it 3-0 after one.

The Cougars wasted no time battling back, scoring twice in the top of the second on a Lauren Yslava two-run home run. Yslava's blast over the left field wall trimmed the Sycamore lead to one.

SIUE would tie it up in the third after a Sycamore throwing error with two outs in the inning.

Entering the fourth inning, the game remained tied at three. Indiana State replaced starter Cassi Newbanks with Lyndsi Adamson to begin the frame.

Indiana State would surrender two runs in the inning, putting SIUE up 5-3 after a fielding error and a hit by pitch. Adamson would leave the bases loaded and limit the Cougar damage to just two.

The Sycamores went hitless for three straight innings until the bottom of the fifth where the offense exploded for four runs on five hits to take a 7-5 lead. Lexie Siwek drove in a run with a single to begin the scoring which was followed by a Kennedy Shade RBI single. Next to the plate was Danielle Henning who gave ISU the lead with an RBI single of her own. Abi Chipps put a run across with an RBI groundout to cap the scoring in the inning.

Adamson struck out the side in the side in the sixth and after the ISU defense erased a base runner with a double play in the seventh, she struck out the game's final batter to secure her first Indiana State victory.

Game Two
Indiana State battled Tennessee Tech to a 3-2 victory in the afternoon portion of their Saturday doubleheader.

The Sycamores jumped out in front again in first inning, with Amanda Guercio and Lexie Siwek delivering back-to-back RBI singles with two outs in the inning. Bella Peterson and Cassie Thomerson came around to score for a 2-0 ISU lead.

Danielle Henning led the second inning off with a double and would later come around to score after a Golden Eagle throwing error which put ISU up 3-0.

Tennessee Tech answered quickly with two runs on four hits in the top of the third. Lexi Benko fanned a Golden Eagle batter to strand runners on second and third to keep the Sycamore lead intact.

Benko set down nine consecutive batters through the sixth inning as Indiana State still led 3-2 heading into the final frame.

After hitting the leadoff batter, Benko set down Tennessee Tech's next three batters to secure her third win of the season.
