Jordan Schaffer and
Aaron Beck were named to the 2022 Perfect Game preseason All-MVC baseball team as announced by the organization on Tuesday afternoon. The Sycamore duo were among the 15 players recognized by the organization heading into the 2022 season.
The recognition marks Schaffer's second preseason nod as the redshirt senior infielder was recognized on the Missouri Valley's All-Conference team earlier on Tuesday as voted on by the head coaches. Beck's recognition is his first of the year as the reigning MVC Newcomer of the Year captured one of the three outfield spots on the team.
Schaffer returns as the Valley's leading hitter with a .367 batting average while sitting second overall in the conference with 79 hits. He added seven home runs and 52 runs scored while driving in 34 RBI. Schaffer ended the 2021 season on a 12-game hitting streak including the Sycamores' postseason run in the NCAA Regionals and had hits in 29 of the last 30 games to highlight his redshirt junior season.
Schaffer finished the year with 20 multi-hit games and 14 multi-run contests to pace the Sycamores in both categories. He added seven multi-RBI contests, including a trio of games with four RBI. finished the season with 10 doubles and a triple. He was 11-of-13 in stolen base attempts and added a .432 on-base percentage and a .521 slugging percentage.
Beck made an immediate impact offensively for the Sycamores last season after transferring in by way of Olney Central Community College. The senior outfielder hit .319 with 10 doubles and 24 RBI while boasting a .474 slugging percentage.
The Evansville, Ind. native put together 12 multi-hit games and added a season-best 10-game hitting streak late in the year heading into the postseason run. He added a triple and three home runs to his totals and finished the year with a .367 on-base percentage.
Beck was the seventh Sycamore to earn the Valley's Newcomer of the Year honor and the second-straight Sycamore to earn the award after Collin Liberatore took home the honor in 2019.
The Sycamores start the 2022 season on the road at the Snowbird Baseball Classic as Indiana State is scheduled to take on BYU, Ohio State (twice), and Marshall over the February 18-20 weekend in Port Charlotte, Fla.
