Men’s Basketball Announces Signing of Four to 2023 Class

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Indiana State basketball head coach Josh Schertz has announced the signing of four to his 2023 class as Jaden Daughtry, Cameron Manyawu, Eli Shetlar, and Derek Vorst have all signed National Letters of Intent to join the Sycamore program. The signing class consists of three forwards and one guard, and each signee hails from a different state ranging from the Midwest to the East Coast.

"We really wanted to be prudent in getting guys that fit us, fit how we want to play, and are the kind of people we want to coach," said Coach Schertz. "It was important for us to get guys with length, guys who have high skill levels, and most importantly in this system you need players who are savvy and really know how to play. We think we accomplished these tangible things with these four young men, and on top of that they are all super high character young men that have shared values as it relates to work and competition. I could not be more excited about the future of Indiana State basketball!"

Jaden Daughtry | 6-7 | Forward | Richmond, Va. | Hargrave Military Academy

Jaden Daughtry is a two-time First Team All-State and two-time First Team All-Metro player out of Hargrave Military Academy. His junior year he averaged 16 points, nine rebounds, and four assists per game. He is averaging 24 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and two steals per game so far during his senior year. Daughtry also competes for the Virginia Havoc and previously earned Player of the Year honors.

What Coach Schertz is saying about Daughtry...

"Jaden is a hybrid forward that brings great versatility on both ends of the floor to our program. He's a Swiss Army knife who can put his fingerprints on a game and affect winning in a wide variety of ways. He has a college-ready body and winning really matters to him. We always look for likeminded people who look at competition through the same lens. Jaden, like the rest of this class, is cut from that same cloth."

Cameron Manyawu | 6-9 | Forward | Kansas City, Mo. | Staley High School

Cameron Manyawu shoots 61 percent from the field off the bench at Staley High School and has recorded 166 rebounds, 37 blocks, and 32 steals during his time there. He also competes for 816 Hoops and was recognized as a NXT Pro National Top Performer.

What Coach Schertz is saying about Manyawu...

"Cam is a unicorn. He just turned 17 years old a few weeks ago, and he's never started a high school game up to this point, but I don't think I've ever seen a player improve as rapidly as he has over the last year. In Coach Neff and Coach Williams at Staley High School, Cam has the luxury of playing for as good a high school coach and program as there is, and we will be the beneficiary of that great coaching and competition. At 6'9 with the ability to guard all five positions, we think Cam is just scratching the surface of what he will become. With his work ethic, character, and humility, there is no doubt he will realize his immense potential."

Eli Shetlar | 6-6 | Guard | Wichita, Kan. | Andover High School

Eli Shetlar averages 17.3 points, eight rebounds, and three assists per game at Andover High School where he holds the school record for 3-pointers in a single game (nine) and 3-pointers in a season (65). He is a First Team All-League and All-State Team recipient and was named to the Salina Invitational All-Tournament Team and Tournament MVP. Shetlar also competed for KC Run GMC.

What Coach Schertz is saying about Shetlar...

"Eli is one of the best shooters I have ever had the opportunity to recruit. At 6'6 with a lightning-quick release and the ability to shoot off movement, he's a perfect systematic fit. Eli plays for his father at Andover High School, and it's immediately evident when you watch him play how well he's been coached growing up. His combination of elite shooting and high level basketball IQ will allow him to have a significant impact on our program. On top of that, he's a fantastic competitor and a great teammate.

Derek Vorst | 6-10 | Forward | Rossford, Ohio | Rossford High School

Derek Vorst is coming out of Rossford High School where he averaged 15.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game his junior year. He has been named to the Northern Buckeye Conference First Team, District 7 Coaches Association First Team, and Northwest Ohio First Team in addition to earning All-Ohio Special Mention recognition. Vorst is also a member of the boy's golf team at Rossford and competes for the Ohio Buckets.

What Coach Schertz is saying about Vorst...

"Derek is a big that brings a rare combination of physicality and skill to the center position. He has the size and strength to play inside on both ends of the floor but has the shooting, passing, and ball handling skills of a guard. He, like Eli, plays for his father at Rossford High School and his savvy and intelligence with the ball will allow us to run offense through him as a point center. Like the others, Derek is a great student and teammate."
