Four of ISU's last six games have been by one possession or less including a 31-26 defeat against then-No. 1 North Dakota State. The Sycamores have posted at least 100 rushing yards and 100 passing yards in every single game in the 2022 season.

Western Illinois leads the all-time series, 26-18, dating back to the inaugural contest in 1967. The Sycamores enter the 2022 campaign on a three-game winning streak following last year's 37-27 win in Terre Haute.

The Leathernecks are still searching for their first win in the 2022 season. WIU nearly pulled off their first upset of the year on Oct. 22 against Youngstown State. Wide receiver Naseim Brantley is the Missouri Valley Football leader in receiving yards (810), yards per game (90.0), and receiving touchdowns (9).
