Neese and Henry named preseason MVC All-Conference, Sycamores selected seventh in preseason poll

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Indiana State's Cooper Neese and Cameron Henry were both recognized on the Preseason Missouri Valley All-Conference team, while the Sycamores were selected seventh overall in the MVC Preseason Poll as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.

Neese (Second Team) picked up his second preseason accolade after previously being honored on the Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook preseason team earlier this fall. Henry (Third Team) picked up his first preseason recognition with the Sycamores.

Overall, Indiana State received 344 total points in the voting pool that encompassed the conference's head coaches, sports information directors, media, and select MVC TV Network personnel.

Neese set new career-highs in both points (15.0) and minutes (35.6) per game on his way to earning MVC Third Team recognition in 2021-22. He led the team in scoring and was third overall in the conference in minutes play, while shooting 39.9% from the field, 30.5% from the three-point line and 81.3% from the free throw line.

Not afraid to pull the trigger from outside, Neese connected on multiple three-pointers in 16 different games and hit at least five triples in five different contests. He added seven 20-point contests and a pair of 30-point games on his way to becoming the 41st member of the Indiana State 1,000-point club.

Henry earned a spot on the MVC All-Newcomer Team after finishing second on the team and 10th in the MVC with 14.3 points per game. He added 5.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists to finish in the top-10 in the Valley in the category.

Among his season highlights, Henry posted three double-doubles, including back-to-back contests against both Hanover (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Old Dominion (14 points, 13 rebounds). He hit 47.3% of his field goal attempts and 33.3% from behind the arc.

The Sycamores take the court under second-year head coach Josh Schertz and boast one of more experienced rosters in the Missouri Valley Conference this season as ISU welcomes back six of their top seven scorers from the 2021-22 season.

In addition to the return of Neese and Henry, ISU welcomes back key starters and contributors Julian Larry (1.2 spg, 1.8 assist-to-turnover ratio) and Kailex Stephens (9.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg), as well as key contributors Xavier Bledson (9.1 ppg, 3.7 apg, 89.2% FT), Cameron Crawford (3.0 ppg, 1.9 rpg), and Zach Hobbs (6.3 ppg, 45 3PT, 36.9% 3PT).

Drake received 52 first-place votes and 646 total points on their way to being named the MVC preseason favorite. Drake's Tucker DeVries was named the Valley's Preseason Player of the Year.
