TOKYO – Noah Malone completed his Paralympic debut on Friday morning in record-setting style, winning his first gold medal as a member of the universal 4X100-meter relay squad for Team USA.
Â
Malone, acting as the opening leg of the relay, got out of the blocks fast and immediately pushed the United States into the lead - a lead that wouldn't be challenged for the rest of the relay. The squad went on to set a new world record time of 45.52, overtaking the world record that the Chinese team had set earlier in the day in Tokyo.
Â
His victory as a member of the team gives him his third medal of the Paralympics after picking up silver medals in both the 100 and 400-meter dashes, both of which also came courtesy of new American records with times of 10.55 and 47.93, respectively.
Â
Malone is the first Sycamore track & field athlete to medal at either the Olympic or Paralympic games and just the second to make Team USA after Felisha Johnson qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympics.
