Consistent Offense Gives Sycamores Seventh-Straight Victory

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Sycamore volleyball is on their second-longest winning streak in school history thanks to a 3-1 (25-19, 25-20, 23-25, 25-15) victory over Eastern Illinois on Sunday evening.

Indiana State (8-2, 0-0 MVC) earned the weekend sweep over the Panthers (7-3, 0-0 OVC) and are now off to their best start since also starting 8-2 during the 2014 campaign. The current streak is also the longest since the 1982 season when ISU won 14-straight and finished the year 37-10.

Offensively, it was a balanced attack from the Blue & White, recording 13, 14, 14, and 15 kills across the four sets for 56 total. Kaitlyn Hamilton and Karinna Gall each tallied 13 kills while Mallory Keller added 10. ISU held a 56-48 kill advantage while also outhitting EIU, .287-.151.

Chloe Mason once again led the passing game for ISU, dishing out 32 assists and splitting time with Emma Kaelin who ended with 19 assists of her own. Indiana State's 53 assists out-did the Panthers who recorded 43.

It was domination at the net for the Trees, who ended was a 12-2 total block advantage over the opposition. The Sycamores recorded 22 block assists and one solo block, including six from Kylie Newby, five from Madeline Williams and a solo block and two block assists from Gall.

On the ground, EIU found their lone bright spot with a 53-30 edge over ISU in the digs category. Senior libero Melina Tedrow led the way with 14 while Ashley Eck contributed 12 of her own. On their home court, the Panthers served up 10 aces to Indiana State's seven, three of which came from Williams.

Missouri Valley Conference play will open next Friday, Sept. 24 for Indiana State when they welcome in-state rival Evansville to the ISU Arena at 6 p.m. ET.
