Gritty Sycamores Earn Comeback Victory over Western Michigan

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State women's volleyball earned their first comeback victory of the year on Friday evening, winning three straight sets after falling behind, 2-0, to defeat Western Michigan, 3-2 (18-25,21-25,25-23,25-21,16-14).

With the victory, the Sycamores (5-2, 0-0 MVC) have extended their winning streak to four while also earning their first win after facing a 2-0 deficit since overtaking Northern Iowa, 3-2, on Feb. 28, 2021. It is the longest winning streak since taking five-straight during the beginning of the 2015 season.

Four Sycamores tallied at least 10 kills on the evening, led by Kaitlyn Hamilton with 14, while Karinna Gall contributed 12, Mallory Keller ended at 11 and Madeline Williams got up for 10. As a team, Indiana State recorded 61 kills while hitting .251. Western Michigan (5-3, 0-0 MAC) ended their evening with 74 kills.

In her second game back for the season, Chloe Mason recorded a double-double with 32 assists and 18 digs. Gall also earned a double-double for the match, adding a team-best 21 digs to go along with her 12 kills. Senior libero, Melina Tedrow, also got down for 18 digs. The Broncos held a 99-92 advantage, however.

Indiana State was dominant at the net, thanks to the wall that Williams and Gall formed. Williams recorded a solo block with four block assists while Gall ended with two solo blocks and three block assists, including the match-winner. As a team, ISU out-blocked WMU, 9-3. Williams, the senior, also ended with a team-best three service aces.
