CHARLESTON, S.C. – Indiana State volleyball concluded their stay in Charleston, S.C. with a loss to tournament host College of Charleston, 1-3 (25-10,19-25,21-25,19-25), in the final match of the invitational.

Defensively, the Sycamores (1-2, 0-0 MVC) were consistent, led by libero
Melina Tedrow with 18 digs. Sophomores
Karinna Gall and
Ashley Eck each added 13, helping the Trees to a 60-56 advantage over the Cougars (2-1, 0-0 CAA).

The Cougars were in control at the net, ending with nine blocks to the Sycamores' five. Freshman
Emma Kaelin led the way with three block assists while
Mallory Keller,
Storm Suhre and
Madeline Williams each added two block assists.

Offensively, Kaelin continued her strong weekend with 32 assists to go along with seven kills, five digs and her three blocks. Keller led the offensive charge with 12 kills, ending the lone Sycamores in double-digits. Both squads were even with 44 kills while College of Charleston ended with a 40-35 assist advantage. Indiana State hit just .169 for the match.

For the third time in as many matches, the Sycamores started strong, racing out to a 9-4 advantage behind two kills each from Kaelin and Keller in the opening frame. Indiana State wouldn't look back, running away for a 25-10 set victory after tallying 12 kills on .333 hitting. Kaelin led the way in the set for the Trees with four kills.

As strong as the first set was for the Blue & White, the Sycamores struggled in the remaining three sets, hitting no higher than .171. ISU did manage to make things interesting in the third set, pulling to within 23-21 late off of a
Kaitlyn Hamilton kill, but the Cougars managed to hold off the Indiana State rally.

Indiana State will return to action next Friday, Sept. 3 and Saturday, Sept.4 for the Middle Tennessee/Belmont Invitational in Tennessee.
