TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State football had several players receive additional preseason accolades as three Sycamores were recognized on the preseason 2021 Phil Steele Missouri Valley Football All-Conference team.
Junior wide receiver
Dante Hendrix and senior defensive lineman
Inoke Moala were both recognized on the second team, while senior offensive lineman
Isaiah Edwards garnered third team recognition. The trio previously received recognition on the MVFC Preseason All-Conference team as announced by the conference office in late July on the conference's virtual media day.
Hendrix paced the Sycamores' receiving game in their last action in the 2019 season on his way to earning First Team All-MVFC recognition. The Florence, Ky. native led the team and ranked third in the MVFC with 653 receiving yards, while finishing fifth in the conference with 51 catches. Highlighting his season included a season-high 135-yard effort at No. 5 Northern Iowa, while his consistency across the board led him to record 50 or more yards through the air in five different games.
Moala played all 12 games in the 2019 season and picked up 11 starts over the year. The Mishawaka, Ind. native finished second on the team with 12.5 tackles for loss and added 3.5 sacks over the season. He also finished among the team leaders with two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. Moala was also a disruptive force in the passing game with six pass breakups and four quarterback hurries.
Edwards rounds out the trio with the Katy, Texas native looking to continue to build off a strong start to his ISU career. He's started every game in his career with the Sycamores and helped pace ISU to 2,656 rushing yards (241.5 ypg) and 30 touchdowns in the 2018 season. He also helped pave the way for ISU to finish among the nation's best in red-zone conversions at 91.3%. Edwards' efforts also led to four different players recording a 100-yard rushing game in the 2018 season.
The Sycamores continue to focus their attention to the August 28 home opener against Eastern Illinois under fifth-year head coach
Curt Mallory. Kickoff at Memorial Stadium is set for 6 p.m. with the game scheduled to be carried on ESPN+ and 105.5 Jack FM.
