JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Matthew Lewis-Banks led the Indiana State delegation on day one of the NCAA East Regional, earning a spot in the quarterfinal of the men's 110-meter hurdles on Friday.

Lewis-Banks unleashed the best performance of his career in the opening round of the 110-meter hurdles in Hodges Stadium. Battling heat and humidity in addition to some of the best athletes in the nation, Lewis-Banks qualified for Friday's quarterfinal round with an automatic spot, placing third in the final heat with the seventh-best time in Sycamore history of 13.79. His time was good enough for 19th overall and he will take the track once again at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, May 25 for the quarterfinals.

The freshman campaign of thrower
Wyatt Puff came to an end on Friday evening. Competing in the men's shot put, Puff placed fifth in flight one with a best toss of 16.98m (55-08.50). Puff earned his way into the East Preliminary Round at the MVC Championships after placing seventh with the seventh-best toss in ISU history of 17.81m (58-05.25), seeding him at 42nd in the East.

The lone Sycamore sprinter of the day,
JaVaughn Moore, saw his individual season end in the men's 100-meter dash first round. The Marietta, Ga., native clocked a time of 10.58 to claim an eighth-place finish in heat one of the event. Moore's individual season wraps up with three Missouri Valley Conference titles (60m dash, 100m dash, 200m dash) while also earning runner-up honors in the indoor 200-meter dash. At the Crimson Tide Invitational, Moore ran to the third-fastest time in ISU history of 10.39 to qualify for the preliminary round. The outdoor sophomore's week isn't completed, however, as he will compete as a member of the men's 4X100-meter relay squad on Friday.

Frankie Young III's standout season came to an end on Wednesday in the men's long jump. The Zionsville, Ind., native was slated to enter the East Preliminary Round with the top mark in the Valley of 7.52m (24-08.25), which was also the sixth-best jump in Indiana State history. The outdoor sophomore placed no lower than seventh in a regular season meet during the 2021 campaign.
