Evansville Sweeps Friday Doubleheader with a 5-1 Win in Nightcap

EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball has been swept in doubleheaders for consecutive weekends as the Evansville Purple Aces took the nightcap against the Sycamores 5-1, Friday at Braun Stadium.

With runners at the corners and two outs, Evansville picked up a break as a throwing error at third allowed the first run to score in the second inning. The Aces came back in the third with two more runs off the bat of Tanner Craig as the first baseman sent a ball over the wall in left center to put UE on top 3-0.

Jordan Schaffer hit his fourth home run of the season to put the Sycamores on the board in the top of the fifth as Indiana State doubled its hit total with three in the inning.

Evansville quickly answered in the bottom half when Kenton Crews drove in a runner with a double to left center. Crews would later come home on a sacrifice fly to center off the bat of Robbie Wilkes to extend the UE lead to 5-1.

Michael Parks and Drew Dominik shut down the final three innings against the Sycamores, allowing just two base hits together.

Tristan Weaver pitched five complete innings facing 27 Purple Aces in the start. The southpaw struck out four, walked two and allowed seven hits as UE knocked the Auburn, Illinois native for four earned runs. Will Buraconak pitched the final three innings for the Sycamores and allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out two.

Max Wright and Miguel Rivera had two hits each to lead Indiana State at the plate as the Trees went for nine total hits.

Jake McMahill earned the victory for the Aces to improve to 5-4 on the year. The right-hander struck out three and allowed six hits and only one run in his outing.
