Sycamores Shutout During Sunday Finale Against Southern Illinois, 5-0

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball dropped its series finale with Southern Illinois Sunday at Bob Warn Field as the Salukis stymied the Sycamore offense en route to a 5-0 shutout. With the victory, the Salukis claimed the series win after taking 3-of-4 games.

Noah Farmer (5-4) was stout on the mound, allowing just seven hits over the complete game shutout. The right-hander did not overpower ISU with strikeouts but by using his teammates in the field. When ISU did reach base, Farmer was able to induce four double plays – a season high for the Sycamore offense.

Southern Illinois (36-16, 13-11 MVC) jumped out to a four-run lead in the third inning of play and never looked back. After a one-out walk Cody Cleveland continued his hot streak at the plate with a single up the middle to put runners on the corners. JT Weber doubled down the line in left to score a run, followed by a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Nick Neville capped off the third after hitting his second home run of the series to clear the bases and give SIU a 4-0 lead.

Southern's Ian Walters added an insurance run in the eighth with a solo home run.

Of Indiana State's seven base hits, none came in the form of an extra-base hit. Dominic Cusumano and Tyler Nelson led the team with two hits each.

Javin Drake (2-3) took the loss for ISU after allowing four runs in four innings of action. Zach Frey pitched four innings in relief and allowed just one run while retiring three on strikeouts. Austin Cross pitched the ninth and did not allow a run.
