TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State men's shuttle hurdle relay team headlined a day of strong performances at the Drake Relays while the Sycamore women were victorious at the Sycamore Open in Terre Haute on Saturday.
 
At the Drake Relays, Indiana State's men placed sixth overall in the team standings with 13 points in five events, falling only to Iowa State (32), Houston (21), North Carolina A&T (18), Air Force (15) and North Dakota State (15). The Sycamore women tied with Illinois State for 15th overall at four points each.
 
Back in Terre Haute at the Sycamore Open, the split squad Sycamores were victorious on the women's side with 141.5 points, overtaking Southeast Missouri State (95.5), Saint Louis (89.5), Southern Indiana (77), Illinois Wesleyan (71), Lipscomb (61), SIU Edwardsville (55.5), Illinois-Chicago (48), IUPUI (34), Vincennes (19), Evansville (14), Carroll (10), Bethel (4). The Sycamore men placed second with 99 points falling only to Saint Louis with 110 points. They defeated SIU Edwardsville (82), Southeast Missouri State (80), Southern Indiana (60.5), Evansville (57), Vincennes (53.5), Illinois-Chicago (53), Lipscomb (39), Illinois Wesleyan (37), Bethel (10) and Carroll (10).
 
For the second-consecutive Drake Relays, the Sycamore men's shuttle hurdle relay team claimed the Drake Relays title following another impressive effort in historic Drake Stadium. The team, composed of 
Daryl Black, 
Quincy Armstrong, 
Avery Taylor and 
Matthew Lewis-Banks took the title after racing across the line with a time of 59.89. Black, Lewis-Banks and Taylor were all members of the 2019 Drake Relays title team.  
 
Freshman 
Noah Malone claimed his second victory of the weekend in Des Moines on Saturday, winning the Paralympic section of the 200-meter dash with a wind-aided time of 21.58, a time faster than the Americas and USA Para records. His time of 21.07 from the EIU Dual meet is still atop the Missouri Valley Conference.
 
During the first event on the track for the Trees on the women's side, the women's shuttle hurdle relay squad of 
Ryann Porter, 
Riley Tuerff, 
Jayla Williams and 
Kamille Gaskin-Griffith placed fourth with a time of 59.77. Their time was less than a second away from 10th in Sycamore history.
 
The men's 4X100-meter relay team brought home three points for the Trees on the blue oval. 
Jarel Shaw, 
JaVaughn Moore, 
Jhivon Wilson and Malone placed seventh on Saturday afternoon, recording a time of 40.74. The squad's time of 40.60 from the Crimson Tide Invitational is currently second in the conference.
 
The two Sycamore finals qualifiers at Drake had strong performances on the final day of the Relays, beginning with Moore in the 100-meter dash. The Marietta, Ga., native placed fifth in a strong field of competition, ending with a time of 10.49. 
Matthew Lewis-Banks had the best day of his season in the men's 110-meter hurdle final, taking sixth with a Valley-leading time of 14.10.
 
In the field at the Drake Relays, 
Nathan Kiger took sole ownership of the third position in the MVC in the men's high jump after posting a clearance of 2.08m (6-09.75) for fifth in the competition. Senior 
Nick Schultz placed sixth right behind him at 2.03m (6-08.00).
 
The final events on the track at Drake featured the men's and women's 4X400-meter relay. The men's team of 
Ben Shepard, 
Will Smith, 
Mitchell Cline and 
Tahj Johnson placed first in the unseeded section of the event, clocking the Valley-leading time of 3:14.74, helped by a 47.62 anchor from Johnson.
 
In the women's section of the 4X400-meter relay, 
Iyanla Hunter, 
Rebecca Odusola, 
Sierra Long and 
Riley Tuerff placed fourth behind a time of 3:47.78. Their time is now the third-best time in the Missouri Valley Conference.
 
At the Sycamore Open, the Sycamores earned a sweep atop the standings of the women's discus throw. Freshman 
Hannah Redlin led the way in first-place with a personal-best toss of 48.40m (158-09), the 10th-best mark in Sycamore history. Redlin is now third in the MVC. 
Lauren England took placed second behind Redlin with a mark of 45.34m (148-09) while 
Elaina Walls took third at 44.36m (145-06).
 
Jayla Bynum continued to bring home victories for the Blue & White after claiming a win in the women's shot put behind a toss of 14.41m (47-03.50), just an inch off of her personal-best. 
Brittnee James took third with a mark of 13.17m (43-02.50).
 
The victories didn't end there for the Trees in the field. 
Janea Bell matched her season-best in the women's high jump en route to a victory, ending with a clearance of 1.65m (5-05.00). 
Marisa Marshall placed fourth behind a clearance of 1.55m (5-01.00).
 
It was a silver finish for 
Kaitlyn Davis in the women's long jump at the Sycamore Open. Davis took second behind a final jump of 5.56m (18-03.00) while her teammate, 
Brittney Walker, placed fourth overall with a leap of 5.45m (17-10.45).
 
Freshman 
Selene Weaver finished as the runner-up in the women's pole vault, recording a final clearance of 3.80m (12-05.50). Her clearance of 3.86m (12-08.00) from the Ole Miss Classic is still first in the MVC.
 
Also in the throws at the Gibson Track & Field Complex, James managed to take third in the women's hammer throw after recording a throw of 50.09m (164-04) in the event. Her mark of 55.32m (181-06) from the Gibson Invite is still ninth in the Valley.
 
Picking up the first victory on the track for the Indiana State was 
Zoe Sullivan in the 100-meter hurdles. The freshman clocked a time of 14.56 en route to the victory at the Sycamore Open while her teammate MacKenzie Stoltz placed fifth at 15.59.
 
Sophomore 
Daija Springer followed up that performance with a second-place finish in the women's 100-meter dash where she clocked a time of 12.62.
 
Ethan Breen got the winning started on the men's side for the Blue & White in the 5000-meter run. During the first event on the track, Breen clocked a winning time of 15:09.61, a 17 second victory over the field. Fellow Sycamore 
Jackson Krieg took fourth in race, crossing the line at 15:34.72.
 
Also earning a top-three finish on the track for the men was 
Blayne Harrington in the men's 100-meter dash. Harrington crossed the finish line with a time of 11.04 to take bronze. In the men's 400-meter hurdles, 
Caine Wilson also placed third after posting a time of 55.18.
 
Indiana State picked up a sweep in the men's long jump in Terre Haute on Saturday, led by 
Dearis Herron with a leap of 7.06m (23-02.00). He was followed in second by 
Frankie Young III at 7.02m (23-00.50) and Mitch Conard in third at 7.01m (23-00.00).
 
In the men's pole vault, freshman 
Gavin Holz took second after recording a personal-best clearance of 4.75m (15-07.00), improving his position in the MVC to fourth in the conference.
 
Wyatt Puff also had a big day in the field at Indiana State, taking second in the shot put with a toss of 16.79m (55-01.00). Puff currently sits in sixth in the Valley with a throw of 17.27m (56-08.00) from the EIU Dual Meet. To end the day for the Trees, 
Noah Bolt placed third in the discus throw with a mark of 48.05m (157-08).
 
Indiana State will be back in action next Friday and Saturday in Lexington, Ky., for the Kentucky Open before returning home on May 7 for the Pacesetter Sports Invitational.
