TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Indiana State field athletes put together several strong performances on day two of the Gibson Invitational to lead the Sycamore track and field teams heading into day three of competition.

The Sycamore women are in fourth following two days, tallying 17 points and leading Northern Iowa (15), SIU Edwardsville (13), Eastern Illinois (10), Loyola (8), Central Michigan (7), Illinois Chicago (3) and Valparaiso (2). The Trees find themselves behind Bowling Green (29), Dayton (28) and DePaul (24). Indiana State's men currently sit in fifth as a team, tied with SIU Edwardsville and DePaul with 13 points while leading Purdue Fort Wayne (10), Dayton (5), Eastern Illinois (5), Illinois Chicago (3) and Valparaiso (3). In the decathlon, Mitch Conard had a solid second day of competition. The sophomore placed in the top-eight during four events on Friday en route to picking up a bronze finish with 6205 points, including a runner-up performance in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:58.97. Â He also ended with a third-place performance in the discus throw with a toss of 34.58m (113-05), a fourth-place finish in the 110-meter hurdles at 15.89 and placed sixth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.82m (12-06.25).

The Sycamores performed well in the men's hammer throw in the afternoon, led by freshman
Noah Bolt who ended with a toss of 52.07m (170-10) for fifth-place.
Brett Norton finished right behind Bolt, taking sixth with a big personal-best throw of 51.78m (169-10).

In the field for the Sycamore women,
Jayla Bynum continued to improve in the women's javelin throw. Bynum recorded a personal-best and fourth-best toss in school history of 41.47m (136-01) to claim fourth in the competition. Her mark improves her conference standing, pushing her into fourth in the Valley.

In the women's hammer throw,
Brittnee James had the best performance of her young career. The outdoor freshman placed eighth in the event behind a personal-best toss of 55.32m (181-06), earning a point for the women with the ninth-best throw in Indiana State history.Â

Leading the way on the track for the Indiana State women was
Reynei Wallace in the 200-meter dash. Wallace ran a personal-best time of 24.46 to claim the fourth position, pushing her up to fourth in the MVC standings.

Indiana State will be back in action tomorrow at 11 a.m. ET for the conclusion of the Gibson Invitational at the Gibson Track & Field Complex.
