He earned several postseason honors including being named First Team All-Metro, First Team Shelby County Reporter, First Team All-Over The Mountain Journal as well as being named to the Second Team by the Alabama Sports Writers Association. The Hoover, Ala. native was also named the Shelby County Player of the Year.
"I am really excited to get the opportunity to coach Cameron," Schertz said. "He combines terrific length with high levels of athleticism and feel, on top of that he is a gym rat which will allow him to fit seamlessly into our culture."
Peterson comes to Indiana State a 1,000-point scorer at West Side High School in northwest Indiana. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 14 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals per game his senior season and led West Side to a 22-5 record and the program's first sectional and regional title since 2004.
He was named to the Indiana Basketball Coaches Association Senior Large School All-State team and earned 2021 Northwest Indiana Times Boys Basketball Player of the Year accolades. A Gary, Ind. native, Peterson was also named 2021 Post-Tribune Boys Basketball Player of the Year. Peterson also played for Chris Buggs – a 2007 graduate of Indiana State.
"Quimari is a winner, a leader, a motivator and a supreme competitor. He impacts winning at an extraordinarily high level, and his imprint is felt all over the game," Schertz noted. "He will bring tremendous energy and toughness into our program and I am so happy that he decided to be a Sycamore."
