TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head softball coach
Mike Perniciaro announced the addition of
Nicole Fougerousse (
few-jers) to the coaching staff for the 2021 season.
"We are excited to add Nicole to our coaching staff," said head coach
Mike Perniciaro. "She is a former Sycamore and has valuable experience that will make our team better. She has extensive knowledge of pitching fundamentals and mechanics, plus her experience in the realm of sport psychology will be an added bonus that will help our team grow. Nicole has a passion for coaching and a brings a high energy level to the field."
Fougerousse served as the pitching coach at Tennessee State University in 2016 before moving to Ireland to complete her Master of Science degree in Sport Psychology. Once returning to Indiana, she opened an indoor softball training facility located in Linton, focusing on developing each athlete holistically.
In 2011, Fougerousse took over the Bloomfield Jr/Sr High School program and improved their season record, ERA and batting average over the five years as their head coach. In 2015, she led the Cardinals to their fifth Sectional title in school history, and a 2-1 loss against Indianapolis Lutheran kept them from the school's first Regional Championship.
While still attending Indiana State University on the Gongaware Scholarship, Fougerousse formed the first non-profit travel softball organization in Greene County, Indiana. From 2006-2012 she coached the 10U-16U Clover Softball travel teams. In 2010, Fougerousse was the pitching coach for the IHSAA State Runner-Up Linton-Stockton Miner softball team, who went 26-1 and posted an ERA of .54 for the season.
Fougerousse brings over a decade of coaching experience to the position and returns to where she began her collegiate career in 2005. Numerous knee surgeries sidelined her playing prematurely, so she jumped straight into the coaching realm.
