Indiana State Drops Doubleheader on Day Two of the Chattanooga Challenge

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Indiana State dropped its early game to Western Kentucky by a score of 15-9, before losing the nightcap to Chattanooga by a score of 16-11. The Sycamores will have a record of 1-3 heading into the final day of the Chattanooga Challenge.

KEY MOMENT – GAME ONE
Bella Peterson led the Sycamore offense going 2-for-4 with a three-run homerun. Freshman Isabella Henning made her second career start hitting her first career double.

KEY MOMENT – GAME TWO
Freshman Abi Chipps made her second career start going 2-for-3 with three runs batted in. Her first career hit and RBI came in the top of the sixth with a 2-RBI single to give ISU the lead.

SCORING SUMMARY – GAME ONE
Top 1st – (WKU 1, ISU 0)
WKU scored first with a solo homerun from Paige Carter.

Top 3rd – (WKU 4, ISU 0)
The Hilltoppers got two base runners from two singles. Kennedy Sullivan hit a three-run homerun to extend WKU's lead to four.

Bottom 3rd – (WKU 4, ISU 3)
Olivia Patton drew a walk and Myceala Miller was hit by a pitch to set up a Bella Peterson three-run bomb.

Top 4th – (WKU 7, ISU 3)
WKU lead off the inning with a single and drew a walk to give them two base runners, then drew another walk to load the bases. Kendall Smith was hit by a pitch bringing in the first run of the inning. A Taylor Sanders double brought in two more runs.
 
Bottom 5th – (WKU 7, ISU 5)
Olivia Patton singled up the middle, and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Bella Peterson reached on an error bringing Patton in to score. Annie Tokarek hit a single up the middle to bring in Peterson.
 
Top 6th – (WKU 14, ISU 5)
The Hilltoppers scored seven runs on five hits and four errors.
 
Bottom 6th – (WKU 14, ISU 9)
Isabella Henning reached on a fielding error to start the inning and Danielle Henning pinch ran for her. TeAnn Bringle hit a double advancing D. Henning to third. Alexis McCullough singled up the middle scoring D. Henning. Leslie Sims reached on a fielder's choice bringing in Bringle. Bella Peterson double to right center putting runners in scoring position. Amanda Guercio singled bringing in Sims and Peterson.
 
Top 7th – (WKU 15, ISU 9)
A Taylor Sanders solo homerun added a run for WKU.

SCORING SUMMARY – GAME TWO
Top 1st – (ISU 1, UTC 0)
Leslie Sims led off the inning by drawing a walk. Sims stole second, advanced to third on a UTC throwing error and later scored on an Amanda Guercio sacrifice fly.
 
Bottom 2nd – (ISU 1, UTC 4)
Chattanooga scored four runs on five hits

Top 3rd – (ISU 3, UTC 4)
Leslie Sims led off the inning with a bunt single to third base and advanced to second on a throwing error and Bella Peterson drew a walk. Amanda Guercio laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on a throwing error by the Mocs, scoring Sims. Isabella Henning hit a sacrifice fly to pull the Trees within a run.
 
Bottom 3rd – (ISU 3, UTC 5)
The Mocs used a triple to set up and RBI single to extend their lead.
 
Top 4th – (ISU 7, UTC 5)
Cassie Thomerson drew a four pitch walk to start the inning then Leslie Sims reached on an error to set up a Bella Peterson RBI single. Amanda Guercio hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game. Abi Chipps hit a single up the middle to drive in two more runs for Indiana State.
 
Bottom 4th– (ISU 7, UTC 6)
Chattanooga pulled within a run with an RBI single up the middle.
 
Bottom 5th– (ISU 7, UTC 7)
Gracey Kruse hit a solo homerun to tie the game.
 
Top 6th – (ISU 11, UTC 7)
ISU scored four runs with singles from Abi Chipps, Cassie Thomerson, Bella Peterson and a double from Alexis McCullough.
 
Bottom 6th– (ISU 11, UTC 16)
UTC scored nine runs on five hits and one error.
