TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State baseball alum
Roby Enriquez's contract was purchased by the Arizona Diamondbacks as the MLB organization obtained his rights from the Pioneer League's Boise Hawks.
Enriquez is coming off a 2021 season with the Hawks where he hit .353 from the plate with 104 hits in 295 at-bats for the Hawks. The second-year player added 20 doubles and two triples, while adding five home runs in 78 games played. He added 47 RBI and 66 runs scored, while adding four stolen bases.
The Carolina, Puerto Rico native made an immediate impact for the Sycamores after transferring into the program by way of Allen Community College prior to the 2018 season. In his first season at Indiana State, Enriquez played in 53 games, earning 49 starts on the year. He led the team and was second in the nation after getting hit by 27 pitches in the regular season, while adding six doubles, a triple, and a pair of home runs. Highlighting his first year at ISU included a walk-off home run in the Missouri Valley Conference tournament over Southern Illinois.
The 2019 season saw another strong year for the outfielder as he increased his numbers across the board. He finished the year with a .285 batting average while lining up in 61 games with 60 starts. He finished third on the team with 68 hits, while adding 46 runs scored. He added 12 doubles and five home runs, while contributing 33 RBI. He finished the year on a seven game hitting streak which included three runs scored, a double, and a home run against Vanderbilt in the NCAA Regional.
Prior to Indiana State, he played two seasons at Allen Community College which included earning NJCAA Second Team All-American honors in 2017. He added First Team All-Region VI and KJCCC First Team All-Conference accolades in the same season after finishing with a .424 batting average and an .802 slugging percentage. He added 33 extra-base hits, including 15 home runs and 16 doubles, while driving in 58 runners and stealing five bases.
