Sycamores Use Strong Defense to Power Past Alabama A&M, 67-43

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State basketball improved to 3-0 inside Hulman Center Saturday afternoon as the team defeated Alabama A&M, 67-43. With the victory, ISU improved to 5-6 on the season with two games remaining on the schedule before Christmas.
 
Cameron Henry led all scorers with 17 points on 7-for-10 shooting to go with six rebounds and two assists. Kailex Stephens and Zach Hobbs picked also scored in double-digits off the bench as the Sycamores backup unit outscored AAMU bench, 33-16. Stephens dropped in 13 points and pulled down seven rebounds while Hobbs accounted for three of ISU's five made baskets from behind the arch en route to his second 10+ scoring output of the season.
 
It was all Indiana State from the opening tip as the Sycamores started the game with an alley-oop score from Xavier Bledson to Henry and the Sycamores never looked back. Bledson was able to find several open teammates in the first half as the guard finished with a career-high 10 assists in the win to go along with seven points, two steals and two rebounds.
 
The Sycamores rushed out to a 10-point lead at 15-5 just over five minutes into action after Cooper Neese scored off a Bulldog turnover. The Sycamores continued to pound the basketball inside, outscoring AMUU 28-6 in the paint in the first 20 minutes en route to a 16-point lead at the break.
 
Indiana State continued to play with effort on the defensive end in the final 20 minutes, holding Alabama A&M (1-8) to just 20 second-half points en route to the win. The Sycamores gave up just four offensive rebounds to the Bulldogs but did not allow a second-chance score.
 
ISU shot 47.4 percent (27-57) overall but just 20 percent (5-25) from distance while holding the Bulldogs to 29.6 percent (16-54) from the floor.
 
Garrett Hicks was the lone A&M player to eclipse double digits with 10 points to go along with two rebounds.
