Indiana State Drops Physical Battle to Loyola, 58-48

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State and Loyola Chicago locked in a physical battle in the second game of the rescheduled Missouri Valley Conference showdown Monday, Jan. 11, with the Ramblers ultimately topping the Sycamores 58-48 in Hulman Center.

ISU (4-7, 1-5 MVC) matched the Ramblers (78-3, 3-1 MVC) blow for blow in the first half, trailing by just three at the break. Loyola controlled the second period of play, however, shooting 45 percent (10-of-22) from the floor while holding Indiana State to just 33 percent (7-of-21) in the half.

Sophomore Jake LaRavia was the lone Sycamore to reach the double-digit scoring plateau, scoring 11 points while pulling down six rebounds. Fellow sophomore Tre Williams led ISU with seven rebounds and added two blocks. Both Cooper Neese and Randy Miller Jr. contributed eight points.

Loyola was led by Camron Krutwig, who led a balanced scoring attack with 16 points. Nine Ramblers found the scoring column in total, with four others contributing six-or-more points.

After the offensive outburst in the first game of the series, defense was the story of the second. On top of 41 fewer total points being scored in the game, both teams shot worse overall from the floor. After a 44 percent (22-of-50) showing in game one, Indiana State managed just 36 percent (16-of-45) from the floor in game two.

The Sycamores won the rebound battle on the night, 33-32, but the Ramblers held the advantage in assists (11-to-6), turnovers (10-to-12), bench points (16-to-14), and points in the paint (26-to-16).

Indiana State hits the road for a weekend series against Illinois State, scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 16-17. Both games are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
