ST. LOUIS – Indiana State will play an eight-game Missouri Valley Football Conference schedule highlighted with four home games League officials announced Thursday afternoon. The schedule replaces the original fall slate which was postponed by the Missouri Valley Football Conference due to concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Sycamores will kick off the season Saturday, Feb. 27 on the road against Southern Illinois. ISU will play host to defending national champion North Dakota State March 6 and South Dakota March 13. Indiana State will also welcome Illinois State April 3 and Missouri State April 10. The team will faceoff with Youngstown State (March 20), South Dakota State (March 27) and Western Illinois (April 17) in road contests.
With the new schedule, the 11 participating league schools will compete for a Missouri Valley Football Conference title with the winner receiving the automatic berth in the NCAA Division I Football Championship. The FCS playoffs will be reduced from 24 to 16 teams this season and will include 11 automatic qualifiers and five at-large bids with first-round games beginning April 24th.
All home games will take place at Memorial Stadium. Game times have not yet been determined. Game management details, ticketing and attendance matters, media and broadcast issues, and other operational details will be determined by the MVFC and the host institutions.
