Sycamore Basketball Heading To Purdue On November 13

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Sycamore Basketball head coach Greg Lansing announced today (April 6) that he will take Indiana State to face off against Purdue on Friday, November 13 inside Mackey Arena for a non-conference matchup. The Sycamores and Boilermakers will be facing each other for the first time since 2010 when the two clubs hit the hardwood at Banker's Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

Game time, television designations and ticket information will be announced at a later date.

"Our players and staff couldn't be more excited about playing at Purdue," Lansing said in making the announcement. "We have tremendous respect for Coach Painter and his program. Playing in state Power 5 schools is something we aim to do every year. We appreciate these opportunities and our fans will be excited about it."

The series dates back to February 7, 1902 when the Sycamores travelled to West Lafayette for the first meeting with the Boilermakers. One of the more memorable contests between the two clubs happened on November 27, 1978 when Larry Bird and the Sycamores improved to 2-0 on the young season with a win at Mackey Arena. Of course, that team went on to a 33-1 record and a berth into the NCAA Championship game against Michigan State. In that meeting, Larry Bird led the way with 22 points and 15 rebounds while going a perfect 10-of-10 from the free throw line in the 63-53 Indiana State victory.

On December 28, 2006, the Sycamores earned an 89-70 victory over the Boilermakers inside Hulman Center as Marico Stinson went 4-of-7 from 3-point range and finished with 24 points to lead Indiana State. Adam Arnold came off the bench to score 13 points and pull down eight rebounds while Gabe Moore had 18 points including a 10-of-12 showing at the free throw line. The only other win for the Sycamores also came at Hulman Center back in 1977.

ISU Director of Athletics Sherard Clinkscales is a 1992 graduate of Purdue and spent time as a member of the Purdue Baseball and Basketball teams. During his time at Purdue, Clinkscales was a roommate of current Boilermaker head coach Matt Painter.

Most recently, the two teams participated in an exhibition contest inside Mackey Arena on October 28, 2017. The game was arranged to provide hurricane relief for organizations in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico. Among current Sycamores, rising senior Tyreke Key scored eight points and led the way with seven rebounds in that contest.
