TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Sycamore football alum
Jonas Griffith has signed as an undrafted free agent with the San Francisco 49ers following the 2020 NFL Draft, the team announced Saturday.
"Jonas is a special player and there is no doubt that he will make any team better," head coach
Curt Mallory said. "He represented our University, our football program and himself in a first-class manner over the years at Indiana State. We're just so proud and excited to see how far he will go."
The Louisville, Kentucky native signed with Indiana State prior to the 2015 season and worked his way to a starter in 2017 before finishing his career. One of the best linebackers in program history, Griffith finished his career with six All-American honors, tying the ISU program record set by defensive tackle Dan Brandenburg (1994-95).
Griffith led the Sycamores in 2019 with 106 tackles (47 solo tackles) to go along with seven tackles-for-loss and four sacks. Griffith was also credited with one interception, three pass breakups, two quarterback hurries and one fumble recovery and forced fumble on the year in 12 starts.
He led the Missouri Valley Football Conference in tackles the last two season and is just the third player in program history to record 100+ tackles in three-straight seasons. He finished his Sycamore career with 382 tackles in 44 games -- the eighth most tackles in program history.
