Sycamore Basketball Inks Trio On National Signing Day

TERRE HAUTE, Ind.  – Indiana State head basketball coach Greg Lansing announced today (April 15) that three student-athletes have elected to join the program in time for the 2020-21 campaign.
 
Two of the new additions are graduate transfers with one year of eligibility remaining. Randy Miller, Jr., comes to Sycamore Basketball from North Carolina Central while Tobias Howard comes to ISU from Towson. The third addition is junior college transfer Ndongo Ndaw (pronounced NON-go N-dow) who enters the program from Butler Community College – who had their sights on the national championship before their postseason tournament was canceled.
 
Already signed with the Sycamore Basketball program in the early signing period are: Julian Larry (Frisco, Texas / iSchool Entrepreneurial Academy); Nick Hittle (Indianapolis, Ind. / Culver Academies HS) and Kailex Stephens (Tuscaloosa, Ala. / Francis Marion / Tallahassee CC).
 
Below are biographies on each of the spring signees as well as comments by the student-athletes as coach Lansing.

Randy Miller, Jr., on Joining Sycamore Basketball:
"I really love Coach Lansing and I love the program at Indiana State. Coach Lansing and I were talking and we really clicked. I felt it was the best fit for me. I love the Missouri Valley Conference, I watched a few games, and it was for me," Miller told the Terre Haute Tribune Star.
 
Coach Lansing On Randy Miller, Jr.:
"Randy is a bucket getter," Greg Lansing said. "He has made big baskets in big games and has played in the NCAA Tournament. Randy is a proven player who is going to fit right in with our team. He can really shoot the ball from the three and create baskets for others. I like how competitive he is and that he has already played at a high level."
 
Randy Miller, Jr., Biography:
2019-20: Appeared in and started eight games before injury, and played 29.5 minutes per game.  Averaged 14.3 points per game, and shot 38.1 percent from the arc.  Scored a career-high 29 points with five three-pointers against USC Upstate on Nov. 11.  Scored 20 points at Youngstown State as well as he went 11-for-12 from the free throw line on Nov. 19.  Preseason Second Team All-MEAC.

2018-19: Appeared in all 34 games and started 32, and averaged 28.6 minutes per game.  Finished second on the team with 13.3 points per game, and landed top-15 in the MEAC in that category.  Ranked top-10 in the league in three-point field goal percentage at 37.1, and in threes made per game with 1.9.  Also finished top-10 in the MEAC in free throw percentage at a team-best 80.7.  Knocked down a total of 66 threes to land tied for the 10th-most in a single season at NCCU.  Scored a season-high 27 points when he went 7-for-8 from the arc against Morgan State, registering the most threes made in a game since 2017 on January 21.  Had two stretches of scoring 20+ points in three consecutive games, from November 13-18, and January 21-28.  Averaged 20.7 points and shot 60.9 percent (14-for-23) from the arc and 60.6 percent (20-for-33) from the floor in the first stretch against Cincinnati, Bowling Green, and Warren Wilson.  Averaged 23.3 points and shot 62.2 percent (23-37) from the floor and 60.9 (14-for-23) in the second stretch against MEAC foes Morgan State, North Carolina A&T and Savannah State.  Pulled down a season-high seven rebounds against North Carolina A&T on January 26, and dished out a season-best five assists against Warren Wilson on November 18.

2017-18 (Moberly Area C.C.): Named First Team All-Region 16 and First Team All-MCCAC.  Played 31 games and started 29.  Averaged 13.6 points per game, and shot 42.4 percent from the three-point arc (61-for-144).  Shot 83.2 percent from the free-throw line, and 45.3 percent from the field.  Scored a career-high 23 points vs. College of Westminster JV's where he shot 8-for-10 from the floor, 4-5 from the arc, and 3-3 from the free throw line.  Drained a career-high five treys against McHenry County.

2016-17 (Mount St. Mary's): Played 11 games in his freshman year, and averaged 1.5 points per game.  Shot 3-fo4-7 (42.9 percent) from the arc.  Made his collegiate debut at No. 20 Iowa State where he played four minutes.  Scored a career-high five points at Minnesota.

High School: Named First Team All-Conference in his senior year.

Personal: Born Sept. 7, 1998 in Odenton, Maryland.  Parents are Randy and Tuneesa Miller.  Enjoys playing video games, and hanging out with his family and friends.

Tobias Howard on Joining Sycamore Basketball:
"I've known Assistant Coach Terry Parker for a long time," Howard told the Terre Haute Tribune Star. "He recruited me out of high school. I just trust T.P. and the relationship we have. Doing my research, I saw that the fan support and the program having a winning coach is an atmosphere I like. I like playing in front of fans who appreciate basketball. I also researched coach Lansing, his playing style, and how he lets players play with freedom and confidence. I just really like the system."
 
Coach Lansing On Tobias Howard:
"Getting T.J. (Tobias) was very important to us," Greg Lansing said. "He is a proven quantity. He scored in a good league against good basketball teams. This is about building a team, and it is a big step for us in adding a high quality point guard like him. I give a lot of credit to coach Terry Parker for recruiting T.J. He already had a previous relationship as T.J. played for T.P.'s father in high school in Atlanta."

Tobias Howard Biography:
 
2018-19: Appeared in all 32 games, making 17 starts … Was second on the team in scoring (10.2 points per game) and 3-pointers made (59) … Led the Tigers in assists per game (2.5) … Finished 12th in the CAA in 3-pointers made per game (1.8) and was 29th in scoring … Came off the bench for Towson's final 13 games where he averaged 10.8 points … Was a candidate for the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Sixth Man of the Year award … Scored in double figures 19 times ... Had 20 games this season in which he made at least two 3-pointers … Tallied a career best 26 points in a win over Drexel on Feb. 16 … Scored 21 points and made five 3-pointers in a road win at Elon on Dec. 28 … Had 23 points in a victory over Loyola on Nov. 25 … Had a career best eight assists against Florida Atlantic on Nov. 17 … Had five games in which he handed out five or more assists … Led Towson in assists 16 times.

Prior To Towson: He was an All-Panhandle Conference First Team selection after helping Chipola win 22 games and advance to the NJCAA Region VIII championship game ... Howard averaged 13.4 points, 4.0 assists, and 3.2 rebounds per game for Chipola College in Marianna (Fla.) ... Howard scored 20 or more points seven times. His season best was 24 points in a 98-91 win over Northwest Florida State College.

High School: Played a fifth prep year at DME Academy in Daytona Beach, Fla., during the 2015-16 season... Averaged 14.6 points, 4.9 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for DME Academy... Shot 53.8 percent from the field, 57.9 percent from 3-point range and 89.4 percent from the free-throw line while leading the Lakers to a 31-2 record... Spent the 2014-15 season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., after playing at North Gwinnett High School in Suwanee, Ga.... Averaged 17.5 points, 3.7 rebounds and 3.6 assists as a junior at North Gwinnett... Rated a three-star recruit by Scout.com.

Ndongo Ndaw On Joining Sycamore Basketball:
"I had a friend [who at the time lived near Terre Haute] that I visited on the way to Butler [from his home in Maryland]," Ndaw told the Terre Haute Tribune Star. "We went to campus, and I definitely liked it. The thing I like about the coach Lansing is that he's a really good person. He makes me laugh every time, and I definitely love that."

Coach Lansing On Ndongo Ndaw:
"Our fans are going to love Ndongo's personality," Greg Lansing said. "The physical tools that he has – you just can't teach. He is a tireless worker and was very productive on a good team at Butler Community College. Ndongo is a rim protector but he can also run the floor effectively."

Ndongo Ndaw Biography:
 
2019-20 (Butler CC): Started 18 games — mostly late in the season — for a team that finished 25-8 at Butler CC … Averaged 5.9 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game.
 
Baltimore City College: Appeared in 28 games with 22 starts for Baltimore City Community College in 2018-19 … Averaged 8.9 points, 8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game, while shooting 48.8% from the floor and 66.7% from the line … Averaged 17.3 minutes per game … Led the Panthers in rebounds (215) and blocked shots (36) … Game-high 4 blocked shots vs Hagerstown Community College (12/4/18) and (2/28/19) … Recorded 8 double-doubles
