BOCA RATON, Fla. - Leslie Sims went 3-for-4 at the plate in Indiana State's heartbreaking loss to Purdue on Day 2 of the FAU First Pitch Classic. The Boilermakers downed the Sycamores by a walk-off single in the bottom of the 7th inning, as Indiana State fell to Purdue, 8-7.
Indiana State out hit the Boilermakers 10-7. The Sycamores left five runners on base compared to Purdue's 10.
The Sycamores struck first in the top of the second inning scoring three runs on two hits and one Purdue error. Purdue bounced back scoring four runs in the bottom of the fourth. Two of them off of a 2-run double.Â
The Blue & White tied the game up at four in the top of the sixth. Then, in the top of the seventh, the trees put up a three-spot pulling ahead 7-4 thanks to a 3-run double from Senior Becky Gibbs.
Purdue rallied in the bottom of the seventh with four runs -- winning in walk-off fashion.
Della Gher (0-1) was charged with the loss giving up the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed one hit and one walk. Gabbi Schnaiter got the start throwing 3.1 innings allowing four runs on three hits and one strikeout. Arielle Blankenship also threw 3.1 innings while giving up three runs on three hits and recording four strikeouts.
Sydney Bates (2-0) was credited with the win despite allowing seven runs on ten hits and five strikeouts.
