Indiana State Overtaken by RedHawks in Game Two of Spartan Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Indiana State put up a fight on Saturday morning, but couldn't overcome the strong performance from Miami (OH) in game two of the Spartan Invite.
 
The Sycamores improved during each set, falling to Miami 3-0 [25-18, 25-19, 25-23].
 
ISU was led offensively by sophomore Madeline Williams and Nikkie White who finished with seven and six kills, respectively. As a team, the Trees hit .123 to Miami's .221. Freshman setter Chloe Mason tallied 15 total assists.
 
Defensively the Trees finished with seven total blocks, getting four from Cassie Kawa and three from Madeline Williams along the way. Indiana State ended the day with 41 digs compared to Miami's 51.
 
Set One - Miami (OH) 25, Indiana State 18
  • Both teams struggled on offense with Miami only hitting .185 and ISU ending at .033.
  • Madeline Williams ended the set with three kills to lead the team on offense while freshman setter Chloe Mason earned five assists.
  • Mason and Melina Tedrow each recorded two digs for the Trees.
  • The RedHawks ended the frame with more digs than the blue and white, holding an 11-10 edge.
 
Set Two - Miami (OH) 25, Indiana State 19
  • It was an improved offensive frame for both teams as the RedHawks hit .268 and the Sycamores hit .125 on the set.
  • Miami started strong once again, but ISU battled back with a 6-1 run midway through the set, tying the game at 15. Nikkie White registered two kills during the streak.
  • Cassie Kawa was the offensive leader with three kills during the set and the team ended with 10 kills to just three errors.
  • Defensively Tedrow was strong, tallying seven digs to push her total to nine. Miami ended up with 22 digs to the Trees' 20.
 
Set Three - Miami (OH) 25, Indiana State 23
  • ISU started the third set off right, taking a 13-9 lead through the first timeout.
  • It was the best offensive set for the blue and white, hitting .194, the same as the RedHawks.
  • It was a clean set for Indiana State, registering 11 kills and only one error.
  • The Sycamores also had their best frame in terms of blocks for the tournament, tallying six total blocks in set three.
  • Mason earned seven assists in the set.
