EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Indiana State Women's Volleyball team will journey north once again this weekend, this time competing at the Auto-Owners Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich., hosted by Michigan State.
 
Quick Hits

• Indiana State continues the 2019 season at the Spartan Invitational on Friday. The Trees will face Michigan State at 12:30 p.m. ET.
• On Saturday ISU will take on Miami (OH) at 10:30 a.m. and then Cincinnati at 3:30 p.m.
• All games will be streamed live on Big Ten Network Plus.
• Michigan State has a strict no-bag policy for fans at Jenison Field House.
• With home football for Michigan State on Saturday volleyball fans are asked to utilize pay lots as there will be NO parking at Jenison Field House.
• Indiana State has a combined record of 6-15-1 against teams competing in the Green Bay Invitational.
• Jade York and Melina Tedrow are both coming off of a strong defensive performance against Green Bay where each tallied 20 digs.
• Freshman Gretchen Kuckkan looks to continue a strong start to her season as she opened her collegiate career with two double-doubles at the Green Bay Invite.

 
When September Went Mad
The Trees travel to Lansing, Mich., this weekend to take part in the Spartan Invitational where they open with host Michigan State on Friday. The series with the Spartans is tied 2-2-1. ISU will also have the opportunity to take-on additional solid competition in Cincinnati and Miami (OH) as well.
 
Defensive Trees
ISU is one of the better defensive teams in the Missouri Valley Conference, averaging 17.17 digs-pers-set which is fourth in the Valley.
 
All Tourney
Redshirt senior Cassie Kawa was named to the All-Tournament team at Green Bay for her strong defensive play throughout the weekend. Kawa led the team with nine blocks during the weekend for .75 block- per-set while also collecting 19 kills on offense. Her 19 kills were the fourth-most on the team during the tourney.
 
Welcome to D-I
Freshman hitter Gretchen Kuckkan stepped-up to the challenge of Division I competition, recording two double-doubles in her first collegiate tournament. Against Northeastern she tallied 11 kills and 16 digs and followed it up on Sunday against Green Bay with 11 kills and 15 digs. The freshman tallied double-digit digs in all three matches for the blue and white, ending the weekend with the second-most digs on the team at 42 and she ended with the most kills for ISU on the weekend at 42.
 
Travel Team
The Sycamores spend the first three weekends of the season on the road at the Green Bay Invitational, Spartan Invitational and Wright State Invitational before finally returning home on Sept. 17 to faceoff with IUPUI.
 
UP-AND-COMING UNDERCLASSMEN
Youth will play a key role for the Indiana State in 2019 as the Sycamores' roster features 10 freshmen and sophomores, making this team the youngest of head coach Lindsay Allman's tenure.
 
OH CANADA
Indiana State's roster features and international flair with three Canadians on the rolls (Rhiannon Morozoff, Alex Toombs, Cassie Kawa).
