SERIES HISTORY WITH EASTERN ILLINOIS
Saturday will mark the 87th meeting between the regional rivals. In a series dating back to 1901, the Panthers lead the all-time series 43-39-4 and prior to the Sycamores 55-41 victory in Charleston in 2018, EIU had won six-straight dating back to 2005. ISU's 55 points in last season's meeting marked the most the Sycamores had ever scored against the Panthers and the first time ISU had scored more than 40 points since 1969. Since 1994, EIU leads the series 13-3 with the 2018 meeting being the first victory for ISU in the series since 2004.
RUSHING ATTACK ON POINT
Indiana State continued to pound the rock, rushing for 215 yards against Eastern Kentucky. Junior
Peterson Kerlegrand recorded his second consecutive 100-plus rushing performance, finishing with 132 yards and a touchdown.
Ryan Boyle racked up 46 yards while
Nick Sims and
Chris Childers added 33 and nine yards on the ground, respectively. Childers has recorded three of the Sycamores' six rushing touchdowns this season. On the year ISU has outgained opponents 719 to 427 on the ground and have went for at least 146 yards rushing in each contest.
INOKE MOALA NAMED MVFC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Inoke Moala earned the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week award after ISU's 19-7 victory over Eastern Kentucky. The honor marks the first for Moala in his career and the second of the season for the Sycamores. Moala, a Mishawaka, Indiana native, finished with eight tackles against the Colonels, including two sacks for 11 yards and a pair of forced fumbles on the final drive of the game for EKU. As a defensive, Indiana State held Eastern Kentucky to 0-for-3 on third down and 1-for-3 on fourth down in the fourth quarter. The Colonels converted four of 15 third downs in the game and were forced to punt six times.
GRIFFITH JOINS 300-TACKLE CLUB; CRACKS TOP-10 IN SINGLE SEASON TACKLES IN 2018
With 16 tackles against Eastern Kentucky, redshirt senior
Jonas Griffith entered his name into the Sycamore record book forever after joining the 300-tackles club. The Louisville, Kentucky native becomes just the 18th player in program history to reach the mark, joining former teammate
Katrell Moss who completed the feat in 2018. He is looking to become just the third player in program history to record three-straight seasons of 100 or more tackles. Griffith finished tied for 7th in program history in single season tackles after recording 132 a year ago.
NUNEZ BREAKS CAREER PAT RECORD; NEARING FIELD GOAL AND SCORING RECORDS
Jerry Nunez etched his name in the Sycamore record book against Dayton, passing Scott Bridges for most career PAT's in program history. Bridges finished his career with 87 PAT's and held the record since 1985. Nunez tied the mark on the Sycamores' first drive against Dayton and broke the record in the second quarter. A week later against EKU, Nunez tied the Indiana State program record with his 41st and 42nd career field goals. He put the Sycamores on top midway through the first quarter with a 42-yard field goal before extending ISU's lead in the early seconds of the fourth quarter to 13-7 with a 31 yarder. He sits just three points away from breaking the all-time scoring record at ISU.
