Strong Offense Pushes Toledo Past Indiana State

DAYTON, Ohio – The Toledo offense proved too much to overcome for Indiana State on Saturday morning, as the Rockets earned a 3-0 victory.
 
Toledo won in straight sets thanks to consistent offensive plays, giving them the 3-0 win [25-16, 25-23, 25-16].
 
Offensively, Indiana State hit .164 for the match with 36 kills while Toledo ended-up hitting .336 with 49 kills. Freshman Gretchen Kuckkan tallied the most kills for the blue and white, recording 10 as well as seven digs. Toledo had two athletes with 16 kills.
 
On the defensive side, ISU recorded more digs than the Rockets by a margin of 53-50 with libero Melina Tedrow once again finishing with the most digs for the Trees at 17. Toledo finished with the edge in total blocks, seven to three.
 
Freshman setter Chloe Mason earned the most assists for the Sycamores against Toledo with 18 of Indiana State's 36. The Rockets ended at 45 assists, 38 of which came from Megan Beasley.
 
Set One - Toledo 25, Indiana State 16
  • Toledo has an impressive opening offensive set hitting .484 to Indiana State's .133.
  • ISU tallied nine kills and were led by Madeline Williams with three. Toledo ended the set with 17.
  • Mason assisted on four kills while also tallying four digs out of the Sycamores' 11 total.
 
Set Two - Toledo 25, Indiana State 23
  • The Indiana State defense tightened up in the second frame, but Toledo took set two behind a strong offensive performance.
  • Both teams recorded 17 digs and Mason once again led the Trees with four.
  • Mary Hannah Lewis and Cassie Kawa both recorded a block in the set, but the Rockets ended set two with four total blocks.
  • The Trees tallied 13 kills in the frame while hitting .164. Kuckkan led the way with three digs.
 
Set Three - Toledo 25, Indiana State 16
  • The Rockets ended the set on a 10-2 run to run away with the match.
  • ISU finished with 14 kills in the frame while hitting .133. Toledo tallied 14 kills while hitting .279.
  • Kuckkan earned five kills in the set to give her 10 for the match.
  • Defensively, Indiana State recorded 25 digs, more than Toledo's 20.
