DAYTON, Ohio – Indiana State will head east this weekend to Dayton, Ohio to compete at the Wright State Invitational in their final road trip before returning home next Tuesday.
 
Quick Hits

• Indiana State continues the 2019 season at the Wright State Invite on Friday.
• The Trees will take on Wright State at 7 p.m. on Friday and Toledo at 10 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a match against Western Illinois at 4:30 p.m.
• Friday's match against Wright State will be streamed on ESPN+ while both Saturday games will be available on ESPN3.
• Indiana State has a combined record all-time record of 18-26 against teams competing in the Wright State Invitational.
• Melina Tedrow is ranked 111th nationally and seventh in the Missouri Valley Conference in digs-per-set with an average of 4.32.

 
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
The Trees will open the Invitational against host Wright State. The Raiders boast a 5-1 record and are on a five-game winning streak. They also lead the all-time series with ISU, 10-5. Toledo enters the weekend with a mark of 4-2 and are on a four-match winning streak. The series between the Sycamores and Rockets is tied, 2-2. ISU will take on Western Illinois in the last match of the weekend. WIU currently owns a 3-3 record and they own the all-time record against Indiana State, 14-11.
 
ALL TOURNEY
For the second-consecutive weekend, redshirt senior Cassie Kawa was named to an All-Tournament team, this time at the Spartan Invitational. Facing some tough competition, Kawa managed to end the weekend with 17 digs and 6 blocks. The redshirt senior was also one of the top hitters for ISU against Michigan State and RV Cincinnati, hitting .364 and .400, respectively against the Spartans and Bearcats.
 
ASSISTING THE OFFENSE
Freshman setter Chloe Mason leads Indiana State in total assists on the season, tallying 97 through six games (18 sets) for an average of 5.39 assists-per-set, which is eighth in the conference. She also is ninth in the Valley in service aces, recording seven for an average of .39 aces-per-set.
 
WELCOME TO D-I
Freshman hitter Gretchen Kuckkan stepped-up to the challenge of Division I competition, recording two double-doubles in her first collegiate tournament. Against Northeastern she tallied 11 kills and 16 digs and followed it up on Sunday against Green Bay with 11 kills and 15 digs. The freshman tallied double-digit digs in all three matches for the blue and white, ending the weekend with the second-most digs on the team at 42 and she ended with the most kills for ISU on the weekend at 42.
 
TRAVEL TEAM
The Sycamores spend the first three weekends of the season on the road at the Green Bay Invitational, Spartan Invitational and Wright State Invitational before finally returning home on Sept. 17 to faceoff with IUPUI.
 
UP-AND-COMING UNDERCLASSMEN
Youth will play a key role for the Indiana State in 2019 as the Sycamores' roster features 10 freshmen and sophomores, making this team the youngest of head coach Lindsay Allman's tenure.
