BIMINI BAHAMAS – Four Division-I men's basketball teams will compete in the 2019 Junkanoo Jam, Nov. 21-24 at Gateway Christian Academy, tournament organizers announced Thursday. The field includes Air Force, Duquesne, Indiana State and Loyola Marymount. Teams will play a round robin tournament with a crowning of a champion at the end with the best record. The first tipoff of the 2019 tournament will feature Loyola Marymount and Air Force on Thursday Nov. 21. In addition, Duquesne and Indiana State will play after the conclusion of game one. All teams will return to Gateway Christian Academy on Nov. 22 to continue play in which Indiana State will face Loyola Marymount and Duquesne against Air Force.Â
"We're very excited about the field we've put together for this tournament," said tournament director Jason Sarkies. "This event offers strong competition to all the teams while giving them a chance to enjoy Bimini.
The tournament will conclude on Sunday Nov. 24 with two final games between Air Force and Indiana State, followed by Loyola Marymount and Duquesne. The tournament champion will be crowned after the conclusion of the second game on the final day.
Teams and fans will stay at the Hilton at Resorts World Bimini, the official partner of the Junkanoo Jam. Built in 2016, the resort has 305 rooms, including 18 suites, eight restaurants and bars, three pools, a casino, snorkeling, big game fishing, and is located less than a 10 minute walk from the Gateway Christian Academy gymnasium.
