AUSTIN, Texas - The dynamic duo of
Cassaundra Roper and
Erin Reese will take the field together one last time in Austin, Texas at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by the University of Texas from June 5-8.

With three entries in the women's throwing events, Indiana State trails only Alabama (4), Stanford (4) and UCLA (4) for the most entrants in the event group. The 2019 season marks the first appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships for both Reese and Roper, making their total of three entries even more impressive.

A star in the throwing events, Reese will compete in both the hammer and discus throws throughout the championships after qualifying for both at the East Preliminary Round two weeks ago. She is just one of four women to double in the women's hammer and discus throws and one of six women to double in any of the circle throwing events.

The redshirt senior will begin with the hammer throw on Thursday, an event in which she placed third in the East behind a performance of 64.33m (211-01). Her seed mark from the East Regional is fifth entering the championships. On the season, she owns a season and personal-best toss of 65.31m (214-03) from her MVC Championship performance in May which also reset her own school record in the event.

Following the hammer throw, Reese will compete in the discus throw on Saturday evening. Reese placed ninth in the East in Jacksonville where she recorded a qualifying throw of 53.24m (174-08), which seeds her 21st in the event. Her personal-best and school record performance came from the Jesse Owens Track Classic where she let loose a throw of 56.45m (185-02) and she also earned the MVC title in the event later in May.

After three East Regional appearances, Roper finally broke through the barrier and qualified for the NCAA Championships in the shot put which will take place under the lights on Thursday night. She enters seeded 19th after her performance of 16.34m (53-07.50) at the East Regional, but her personal-best mark came earlier this season at the Crimson Tide Invitational where she recorded a toss of 16.44m (53-11.25) which is fourth in school history.

At the NCAA Outdoor Championships, the Sycamore women have had five student-athletes crowned champions, which is tied with Southern Illinois for the most in the Missouri Valley Conference, including Holli Hyche (1993 &1994 100-meter dash; 1993 200-meter dash) and Kylie Hutson (2009 & 2010 pole vault). A total of 114 student-athletes wearing the blue and white have earned All-American status for the Trees.
