ST. LOUIS – Indiana State had three players receive postseason honors Wednesday as the Missouri Valley Conference announced its 2019 All-Conference Softball Teams.
Shaye Barton,
Brooke Mann and
Leslie Sims all received Second Team honors.

Additionally, Mann received All-Defensive Team honors.
Â
It marked the first time since 2014 and only the third time overall the Sycamores had three players recognized on the all-conference teams. For Sims, it marked her third straight year receiving all-conference honors and the junior second baseman becomes just the third Sycamore in school history to receive three all-conference honors in her collegiate career and just the second to do so in three consecutive years.

Barton, a senior third baseman, finished the year with a .344 average (ranking 17
th in the league) and tied Mann for the team lead in extra-base hits (15). She was hit by a team-high four pitches this year, posted a team-leading .497 slugging percentage and stole four bases in five attempts. Her 10 doubles tied for seventh in the Valley and her 90 assists led the team and ranked ninth in the conference.

Mann, a senior catcher, received second team and defensive honors as she was one of the most dominant catchers in the conference. She threw out 17 runners attempting to steal, a mark that led the conference and is a single season school record, while her three pickoffs also led the league. Offensively, Mann hit .238 while starting in all 51 games and her six home runs led the team.

Sims once again led the team with a .393 batting average, a mark that ranks sixth in the league. She stole 32 bases in 35 attempts, breaking the Indiana State career record for stolen bases in April, and led the team while ranking second in the MVC with 66 hits and 45 runs scored. Her .914 stolen base percentage is among the best in the Valley and country and her 78 career stolen bases ranks fifth in MVC history.

Only outfielder Sarah Lemond (2000, '02, '03) and shortstop Meredith Simpson (2007, '08, '09) have garnered three all-conference honors before in school history prior to Sims with Simpson being the only other player to do so in consecutive years.

Indiana State opens the MVC Tournament Wednesday against Loyola Chicago. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. ET (4 p.m. CT) and the game will be broadcasted live on ESPN+.
