TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State Head Women's Basketball Coach
Vicki Hall announced the addition of
Deneen Parker to the Sycamore Women's Basketball Staff Thursday.
Deneen (Pronounced: duh-NEEN) Parker joins the Sycamore Family after spending the past three years at Northwestern State where her work with the team's post players paid continued dividends and her work on the recruiting trail was pivotal for the team's rebuilding efforts. She will officially assume her duties on May 13.
"Deneen has an extraordinary amount of experience," Hall said of the newest addition to her staff. "She is a high-energy person with a great knowledge of the game and has an excitement to teach it. Also, she is great on the recruiting trail and I am excited to have her on our staff."
At Northwestern State, Parker helped develop Victoria Miller into a second team Academic All-Southland Conference performer as Miller's growth in the second half of her junior season led to a career year for the 6-foot Texas native. She also assisted in the development of RaVon Nero, focusing on post moves that helped Nero tally 370 points, the fifth-highest total for a Northwestern State freshman in school history.
Parker's tenure with the Demons was highlighted by the growth of Libba Gilliam, the team's leading scorer that became an inside-out weapon, showcasing a deft 3-point touch.
Prior to her time at Northwestern State, Parker spent two decades at SMU where she helped the Mustangs reach five NCAA Tournaments the school's first-ever conference regular season (2000 Western Athletic) and conference tournament (1999 Western Athletic) titles.
During her 21 seasons with the Mustangs, Parker burnished her reputation as a standout recruiter, eventually taking over as SMU's recruiting coordinator.
Parker was a two-time Southland Conference Player of the Year and two-time District VI Kodak All-American at Stephen F. Austin, helping the Ladyjacks to four straight SLC titles and NCAA Tournament appearances.
She was also part of the gold-medal winning team at the 1991 U.S. Olympic Sports Festival and palyed professionally for six months in Luxembourg and Germany.
A 2010 inductee into the Stephen F. Austin Athletic Hall of Fame, she is a 1994 graduate of SFA with a Bachelor's degree in communications with a minor in marketing.
Parker replaces Quacy Barnes-Timmons, who recently departed after accepting a head coaching position at a high school closer to her family in Georgia.
Hall also announced the addition of Mya Glanton to the team's roster. A 6-foot forward from East St. Louis, Illinois, Glanton averaged 11.8 points and nearly four rebounds at East St. Louis High. She was a 3A-4A All-Area selection for East St. Louis by the Belleville News Democrat and played AAU for the St. Louis Eagles along with current Sycamore signee Caitlin Anderson. Glanton's addition comes as center
Lynn Tamis announced she has decided to leave the program.
The 2019-20 season will mark the second year under the direction of
Vicki Hall.
