Â
The Sycamores will be one of nine teams alongside Bradley, Butler, DePaul, Eastern Illinois, Northern Illinois, Northwood, Southeast Missouri and Valparaiso.
Â
Entering competition on Saturday, the Sycamore men find themselves ranked ninth in the Great Lakes Regional rankings, while the ISU women will make their first appearance of outdoor season in eighth. The women also remain the highest ranked Missouri Valley Conference team in the national rankings at 85th.
Â
Four men currently find themselves in the top-48 of the NCAA East Region rankings. The MVC Indoor Freshman of the Year,
JaVaughn Moore had a strong performance at the Ole Miss Classic last weekend in the 100-meter dash where he finished sixth with a time of 10.52. His time is the best in the Valley and 45th in the East.
Â
Fellow freshman
Matthew Lewis-Banks also put on a lifetime-best performance at the Ole Miss Classic, as he finished third in the 110-meter hurdles behind a time of 14.12. Not only is his time the best in the conference, but it is also 21st in the East Region and 38th in the NCAA.
Â
Both
Callan Whitehouse and
Riley Smith had a good weekend at Ole Miss where they both posted marks of 4.85m (15-11.00). They were rewarded for their performance with a tie for the third-best mark in the MVC and the 43rd-best mark in the East Region.
Â
On the women's side, five athletes are ranked in the top-48 of the East Region. Making a big jump in those rankings was senior
Ayanna Morgan. At Ole Miss, the Barbados native raced to the third-fastest time in school history in the 100-meter hurdles of 13.67 en route to her victory. She now has the top time in the Valley and 26th-fastest time in the East.
Â
In the field,
Erin Reese is in the top-15 in the East in two events: the discus and hammer throws. Last weekend, Reese broke the school record in the discus throw with a phenomenal throw of 55.91m (183-05), overtaking Julie Koebcke's mark from 1995. Reese is second in the conference, third in the East Region and 10th nationally.
Â
The redshirt senior walked away from the Ole Miss Classic with a title in the hammer throw with the second-best toss in the Missouri Valley of 62.66m (205-07), which boosts her to 11th overall in the NCAA East Region and 21st in the country.
Â
Cassaundra Roper also performed well in the throwing events last weekend for the Trees as she placed third in the shot put. The redshirt senior recorded the second-best mark in the conference of 15.06m (49-05.00) and her mark also sits at 34th in the East Region.
Â
Elsewhere in the field, the long jump yielded good results for the blue and white last weekend, as
Caitlyn Redmon recorded a jump of 5.90m (19-04.25) to push her to third in the MVC. She also enters at 35th in the East.
Â
Events on Saturday at the Gibson Track & Field Complex are slated to begin at 11 a.m. ET with the field events, while action on the track will get started at 12:15 p.m. with the prelims for the 100-meter dash.
