TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Indiana State head basketball coach
Greg Lansing announced today (April 17) that Christopher Agbo has signed a national letter of intent to join the Sycamores. He will join the program in time for the 2019-2020 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining.
"We're awfully excited to add Chris to our Basketball Family," Lansing said. "In losing Emondre and some interior production, Chris will be able to step in and play a pivotal role. The Big Fella was the anchor at both ends of the floor for a very good Pearl River CC team that made it to the NJCAA National Championships. His role wasn't as a scorer but to dominate physically in the paint. When you see him, you will understand! Chris is extremely physically imposing. He reminds me of Myles Walker of our NCAA tourney team in a lot of ways. Chris is from Nigeria where his Mom and Dad still reside. He has been in the states for five years. He is a very interesting young man that speaks five languages and will fit right in with the quality guys we have on this team."
The 6-8, 275 center projects to be a force inside for the Sycamore Basketball program. In his one year at Pearl River Community College, Agbo averaged 6.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while connecting on nearly 70 percent of his shots from the field. He scored a career high 20 points on February 11 against Hinds Community College in a game in which he went 9-of-11 from the field. All told, Agbo reached double figures scoring five times during the year.
"First off, I wanna thank the man above for life and bringing me this moment," Agbo said on social media. "I want to thank the whole PRCC staffs, coaches and teammates for believing in me on and off the floor. And i want to personally thank MY mother & Father for all of the sacrifices they've made to make all of this possible. I also want to thank all of the coaches for taking time to recruit me. With all of that being said, I'd like to announce that I am committed to Indiana State University. Go Sycamores!"
As a freshman in 2017-18, Agbo played in 16 games at Tallahassee Community College, starting in seven games. Averaged nearly five points and 12 minutes per game played over the course of the year.
Agbo's journey started in his native Nigeria. He played at Starlet High School in Nigeria during his freshman and sophomore seasons before emigrating to the United States in 2015 to play for Covenant Christian Academy in Marietta, Ga., where he averaged just over 10 points per game. Agbo also played for the Southern Stampede club team.
Agbo joins the Sycamore signing class from the fall which includes Indiana All-Star Cobie Barnes (Floyds Knobs, Ind./ Floyd Central HS), Jared Hankins (Indianapolis, Ind./ Lawrence Central HS) and Tre Williams (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Woodstock Academy).
